First wood-tick of season found today..
«

Just finished up marking boundaries, thought I'd take a circle around the food plots and see how the lespedeza-clover mix was doing and thought, 'this the warmest day' could be ticks out,nahh..until I got home, one on my neck. I came down with Lyme disease several years past, it is SO BAD a disease, took over a year to get over it. Fever every day during onset, joints swollen, arthritic conditions, cane and crutch time along with two hospital stays. Beware the little devils!

Yes, I went walking in one of my plantations this evening and found a tick on my neck too when I got home
.
I hates ticks (what Yosemite Sam would say).

My grand daughter had one stuck on her almost two weeks ago. I was really surprised, as it hadn't been all that warm here then. Must have been mud ticks.

I guess they could be out in any weather, but we have several inches of snow here in Illinois (and it is March 20).
The snow might keep the ticks in hiding for another few days.

I was talking to some one the other day that is knowledgable about these things, and they said that ticks are almost found year round now. We got one off the dog here about 3 weeks ago

Ticks are not the only things out......old "no shoulders" will slide out and curl up beside a tree in the sun.

So far this year I've pulled two off myself and three off the dog.

I saw a little "no-shoulders" yesterday on the tick foray. It was just a little green striped no-shoulders. He looked scared.

Couple years back...I had Lymes Disease, Babisdosis, and Anaplasmosis which resulted in months of hell and a week at the Mayo clinic. That *DanG tick must have been the size of a small dog.
These days I am a fanatic about ticks. Me and Permanone treated clothes have become good friends. I'm sure Permanone is probably not good for you; however, I know first hand those tick-borne diseases aren't so good for you either.

What's a 'no-shoulders'?
If it has no arms or front legs, it has no shoulders.......

Ordinarily, ticks & snakes don't come out 'till about the 4th week in April where our Tree Farm is. Think because I've thickened and grassed up the habitat that we're seeing more ticks earlier. A national waterfowl refuge 40miles south closes a certain black-top road for most of April as to allow snakes to make it from their winter dens down into the swamp safely. The snakes like to warm theirselves on sun-drenched roads just after leaving dens. All snakes protected here in Mo.[my truck don't know that]

I've seen rattlers in February several times here.

Just about any day above 50 degrees will bring the ticks out here. LBJ comes in with them year round. I have already found several in the last few weeks. Not run across any snakes yet but it will just be a matter of time. I could have seen some snow snakes today if the snow had not been so wet today.
