Mac Pro 610 Clutch question
« on: March 17, 2010, 05:50:34 pm »
I have a Mac Pro 610 Clutch that I need to change the sprocket on.

Question 1:  Do I need a special tool to take the clutch off of the unit?  If not what do you recommend.  If I do need a tool does anyone know where to get one.

Question 2: Do you turn the clutch clockwise to loosen up as you would on any other chainsaw.  In other words, take out the spark plug.  Put some nylon rope in the hole to dampen the piston wrench off clockwise to loosen the clutch?

Any help would be appreciated.  I have enjoyed this saw so much I don't want to damage it.

Tom

Yes it's a left hand thread .Block the piston then use a drift of some type and smack it with a hammer . I don't know of any special wrench unless it but be a pin spanner or something like that .

Al,

Thanks for the information.  I couldn't find a tool for it so I guess I will do the needle nose pliers to it with a big honkin adjustable on the flats.

Just didn't know if there was an easier way.

Thanks,
Tom

Hmm ,I wasn't paying enough attention ,sorry .

I thought what in the world is this guy talking about with needle nosed pliers and a Cresent wrench ?

Now unless someone mounted a different clutch that thing should  just have a 10 MM nut on it  like all the rest of them .So I trotted out  to my shed and looked, sure enough, nut .Just unscrew the nut and smack the clutch with a hammer .It should pop right off . Now just tap the clutch not like driving a railroad spike now .
