My vintage Ford logging Equipment (pics)
« on: March 11, 2010, 11:23:33 am »
Here is my vintage logging Equipment. This was the first time I hauled this hoe on the road, did good but not that fast and a little hard on gas. The truck is a 1966 and the Hoe is 1969. The hoe can real haul the wood out on the homestead, I have forks for it too. I've skide 40 foot length 2 foot dia western red alder over 1/2 mile with the hoe then use it to load the logs on my 1966 Mobil D mill. Has over 8000lbs of pull on the hoe and can lift 6000lbs on the forks.

Sweet truck( hoe too) In the northeast they are long gone due to salt on the roads. Makes me jealous.

One of our companies still has the 1968 Ford 3400 diesel backhoe/loader that Dad bought new. We restored it to as new in 2002.

I have my Grandaddy's 1963 F-100 Forest Green pick up. It's not restored because its original condition is yet very good.

Both were well made and finished. Today these pieces would be considered small.

Nice hoe and truck.  I am kinda jealous. :D :D  Especially now that you have that Corinth mill 8) 8)

Not sure about parts for the truck.  Those old ford tractors have pretty good parts availability.
I built my own band mill with the help of Forestry Forum.

I have a '58 IH with a dump bed.  My dad still has my grand-dads '57 4x4 IH. They are great machines.
And that's all I have to say about that,
Patrick

Yeah it's a nice set up for 40 years old and the best part it's all paid for. I can get parts for all the equipment, good thing because I do have brake downs often. Wish I could afford to spend more time playing, but it dosen't pay the bills.
Here some logs I just harvested, Hemlock, Spruce, and Western Red Cedar.

These are some familiar pictures, bring back a few memories.  Dad had a 65 ford 4x4 until last year. He got it before I was born, and used it to build their place, cut firewood every year, pack gravel to fix the potholes on the road, and everything else you can imagine. It was a tough old truck. But he has two other trucks, so he finally sold it, it was in good condition and will continue to be with the new owner I think. My first vehicle was a 58 international 4x4 with a flatbed. One beat up ugly old beast, that was. It hauled 2 cords of green firewood now and then, it was a 1 ton with some extra leafs so that was pushing it a little, but it went fine. It had a strait 6 gas engine, 260 something ci if I remember right. I still see that old IH of mine packing wood around now and then, I sold it 15 years ago. And down the road a few miles a neighbor has a backhoe like that old Ford, but his has a canopy. I am not sure if that is from Ford or homemade though. He really likes the tractor and it seems pretty strong, but I don't know much else about them.

I can't contribute much, as I have not owned a Ford. However, my grandfather bought one every other year after he retired, probably until the end of the 80's. I do remember the 70's models we drove all over creation in fishing in the summer and got a lot better mileage than later model trucks. That's before trucks got expensive and interest on savings was high. Always paid cash.

Pre-commercial thinning pays off. :)

Well I'm not sure on the weight of the hoe, but the Reed trailer weighs 3000 alone and the truck 4500. I'd guess around 8000 lbs, but not sure. I won't be taking it any farther than 20 miles from the Ranch and not even that often. It pulled it no problem, but the stopping is what I worry about.

I was just trying to get a good guess as to what my 5103 Deere weighs as compared to the hoe. My tractor has a loader and is a little bigger machine (50 hp) but I would think the extra weight of the hoe on your machine would put them pretty close in weight. I think a trailer that would haul your hoe would haul my tractor.
