Who is planning on attending this year? I'm planning on taking that friday off of work and possibly running back down on Saturday. This has been a decent show in the past.

I plan on going. Don't know what day or days. I have always found a wealth of info and contacts at the show. Looking at new equipment always gets the wheels spinning. Lots of parts dealers. Also a good chance to pick up some new publications. Sometimes a free coffee cup, hat, ink pens, note pads, etc. Plus enough candy and peanuts that you don't have to go out for lunch.

Friday the 21st is my MDO/RDO, so I plan on attending. If my buddy doesn't go ( he loves to drive), maybe I can catch a ride.

i'll be there, i need a couple log rollers, some new carbide teeth., some good flat files, round files, and i'm sure there will be other stuff i see i cant leave with out. i'm hoping to find out where i can get a 3 pt hitch cutoff saw.

The wife and I are planning on being there don't know what days but will try to take that week off and just ride the bike up the coast through Cape Hatteras, N.C. then get lost in the hills on purpose.

I'll start looking for for a place close to the site. What time you up for? Say shoot for 7:30 to 8:00 AM for breakfast? It's about 1.5 hr drive to Richmond for me.

Take good notes!

I wanted to attend, but that is too far to come for a 4 hour class. There has been a two day seminar in the past, but they shortened it this year. I am definitely going to build a solar kiln sometimes this year.

i've been drying lumber with a solar kiln for several years, I just put it in and ignore the lumber until I have some place to put it....

this class should be pretty good. at least I hope.

Dave, Dan, Kansas and anyone else who wants to join us,

Did a little on-line research for a breakfast place near the expo. There is not a Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans, Denny's, IHOP or Waffle House near the site. Most of them are on the west side of I95 - the other side of town.

If Kansas (and he would like to join us for breakfast) is staying down near the airport, I recommend we go to the Cracker Barrel at 4435 Laburnum Ave. It’s right where Laburnum and I64 cross. The expo is about 6.5 miles north on Laburnum.

If he is staying out near the expo site, then I recommend we go to the IHOP or Waffle House at 7400 Sandy Lane, Mechanicsville. It’s just north of I295 on the Mechanicsville Turnpike.

My suggestion would be the IHOP on Mechanicsville TWP. It’s about 6 miles or less from the show.

Looking forward to breakfast and the show.

I am staying at the Hyatt Place Richmond Airport hotel. If I am reading the map right, that Cracker Barrel is right there. Look forward to seeing all of you. If everyone wants breakfast somewhere other than that, let me know.

I met up with Bruce this morning before the solar kiln class (Sorry I was running late, Bruce!).

Anyways, the class was good. I wish that the instructor would have gone deeper into how to use the kiln, and specific drying information.

actually, I was operating my vents backwards, he said to leave them open for a few weeks, then close them off to finish the load.

THis probably warrants a new thread in the right forum. I'll do that later (because I'm tired and lazy).

LogRite's newest competitor in the arch business unveiled their low cost model.

Here's an interesting arch design that was on display at the Hudson booth. I'm not sure how well it would work. Doesn't look like it will handle much in the way of log diameter.

This is Stihl's new "large" saw. Powered by a 441 Hemi. It really ROARED when they fired it up.

Husky had this monster on display. I think Cedarman ordered one for those LARGE cedar trees he's harvesting and he can clear an entire field of cedar in 1 swipe of the bar.

I had a great time in Richmond, both at the show and meeting FF members, plus exhibitors both at the hotel and at the show. A special thanks to Buck and Cedarman for picking me up when we went to dinner. I learned a lot. seen some good equipment, got some good ideas.
Best one though was one I didn't expect. We have struggled for years for a decent stop system for our upcut saw. A lot of times, we have lumber coming off of both bandmills that have to be cut to length and they are cutting different products. Its not unusual to be trying to cut stuff to 6 or 7 different lengths. Needless to say, things get confusing, stops get bumped, etc. A pallet enterprise out of New Albany Indiana came up with a low cost idiot-proof system. I figure I will be ordering it Monday.

I was there for a few hours on Friday. Had a great time, watched the loader competition at the Prentice display, that was pretty neat. Got to meet the guys from American Loggers at the Caterpillar booth and even got an autographed poster

And of course I ate my fair share of peanuts

There sure was a whole lot to see (that Stihl "machine" was something else!", wish I'd been able to make it back down on Saturday to check everything else out
