Picked out a new saw
« on: February 20, 2010, 07:02:06 pm »
Hi everyone, I joined this forum a few years ago but havent been on it for a while. Over the past 2 years I ended up selling my 2 Husqvarna`s ( which I loved ) and I just recently put a new Stihl on ``lay away``at the local dealers. 3 more weeks and its mine !!! I need a saw for cutting 20 to 30 cords of hardwood ( firewood ) a year and using it occasionally around the property falling the odd tree once a week or so. I read a lot of posts on here to help me decide what saw to get and I think I picked the right one. It was on sale for $100 off the regular price for $399.99 Canadian with an 18 inch bar. I picked a new Stihl MS290 with a 2 year warranty. What do ya think .........good choice......its not like my old Husky 365 Special but it should be fine I think. Thanks for listening.......just had to share my excitement.

I've spent plenty of time running the 029, which is nearly identical. Like you said, it won't replace the 365, but it will do a lot of work. :)

I used to use pro saws when I made a living with them but I dont anymore. A pro saw would cost a fair bit more and they dont come with a 2 year warranty so I figure for what Ill be useing it for it will be fine. 30 cords of firewood a year and cutting the odd dead tree isnt too much to cut compared to a pro saw thats used hard 5 days a week. Thats my opinion anyways. :)

i believe all stihl saws have a two year warranty unless used for commercial use then that warranty is 90 days.
when all else fails dig in and just work harder
