how to eliminate water hammer
« on: February 10, 2010, 06:56:42 am »
Installed e- classic fall of 2008 tied into system 2000 oil furnace, seem to have lots of water hammer on all 5 zones, changed  1 zone valve and installed a variable speed circulator but still hammering.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Stratford 50

I'd add an expansion tank. You'll need it time & time again.

elbows with bleaders at highest area of each zone . Or at each register. When they start hammering crack them a little till water comes out then close ,when done add water to the system to make up room for the lost air.

If the zone valves open or close too fast with a high flow pump you will get hammer too.
