Are there any of the other brands of outdoor gasification boilers that are as good or better than the E-Classic?

Try www.epa.gov/burnwise/owhhlist.html

While there are quite a few gasification models available, I would not suggest looking at models that have not passed the Phase 2 testing by the epa.  If you're going to pay for one of these downdraft units, you might as well get one that will be accepted by all current local and state regs.  This list will give you some options and yet limit your choices to a acceptable number.

I do not know how you will be able to compare the models available with the E-Classic, other than the data provided in the epa charts.  Is there another thread or forum that discusses the success and/or troubles of these other models?  Not that I have seen.

Does it have to be an OWB. Lots of excellent indoor boilers that could go in a shed. My Tarm is amazing in it functionality, durability and efficiency.

Never heard mention of one on here, I have a gassfier stove, not a furnace. Looks like a conventional wood burning stove, but has 2 combustion chambers. It's an updraft, has no fans at all. Data plate says output is 40,000 btu. Wood has to be dry, even damp stuff don't work. Makes a small amount of smoke on startup, once up to temp, anything coming out of the stack is just steam, and not much of that. I heat a 2000 sq ft, well insulated house. Only thing I don't like, the firebox is too small. Have to load it 4 or 5 times every 24 hrs..

I'm using an Econoburn EB-200 in an outbuilding with 2 500 gal. storage tanks in my basement.  I'm very happy with this unit.  I've been burning it through 2 winters now and I've had no issues at all, runs efficiently and burns cleanly.  Econoburn just came out with an outdoor version of this same boiler last winter, never seen one but have read that they work as good as the indoor models.   Funny how only Central Boiler is discusssed in this forum they must be a major sponsor or something.  Lots of other proven and time tested gasifiers on the market.  Garn, WoodGun, Tarm, Eko, Viessman and a slew of European made units that blow the door off any O.W.B. from this side of the pond.  Look on other wood burning web forums and you will find lot's of information.

Again-  see link on this thread

There are many gasification units available.  I would not suggest purchasing one that has not met the EPA phase II standards.  The list is one the EPA web link (see my earlier post).  Econoburn is not yet on it.  I do not know how often they perform the tests or update the list.

I know that I am repeating myself, but it is vitally important, before buyuing one of these things, to have some idea how much heat you require.  Look at the EPA list.  There are only three companies that manufacture outdoor furnaces with btu ratings above 160,000 btu's.  The smaller units will be efficient, but they may not provide enopugh heat.
