Self Adhesive Wood
« on: October 05, 2003, 09:26:03 am »
  Went outside this AM and ripped some 2 X 6's for the drum sander project. First real work I done since the "incident". Man, I'm bushed.
 Ennyhoo, After sawin them boards and cutting to length, here is what I have. Self stick lumber. This ain't even "Fat" wood.

Y'all just THINK ya got sappy wood.

 Here's a pic of the Sanding Drum. 40" long X 5" dia.

  Some of that "PINE FAT" ::) ::) ;D ;D
 Actually, (I ain't done this yet) I figger on laying out the 10" wide cloth back paper, so we can put a couple screws into the END of the roller, to hold the end of the paper. Then wrap it, spiraled, all the way across and slot the paper, so it can move a little as it works, and then snug up the tail end with screws, on the other END???
 Getting the paper wrapped the correct way, will cause it to "strangle" itself on the drum. I also have sanding disk glue, that ya use for sticking disks on flat sander plates, on a electric motor shaft. A lil of that can't hurt, I don't think.

 Paul, how long a drum do ya need???

  Kerosene, Gasoline, WD-40, Pam, among some of the things we use, whichever is handiest.

Harold,

I was thinking of having the sander attached to the back end of the planer.It should be at least 13" long(wide)

  Ain't we been through this before??? ;D
After extending the table, I see no problem putting a drum after the Planer.
 My original plans called for making the drum with a 1" all thread and several hardwood discs. Thread 'em on and glue 'em up. Then, when ya get the rest of the sander built, run the drum while holding a stick with sandpaper on it, against the OUTPUT under side of the drum. That will true it up and then seal it with Urethane.
 Some sort of "feeler" will be required, to allow the drum to just hit the surface, without "grabbing" and tearing the paper off the drum.
 You will have to "sync" both feeds or you will have a dip, when the board leaves the planer and the extra feed takes over.
