Efco 165

I got my 165 in the mail last week. Going to run it tomorrow. Like the build quality. Price was great, $250 less than a new 365.  $40 less than new MS 250. Any thoughts on this saw. Think I will buy a 152 also.

someone on here posted a link for the efcos with awesome prices. id like to try a 152 or a 156..  the 156 looks like the 165 body and that tells me it may be big for a mid 50 saw. i dont have a local dealer to test handle them and my jdeere dealer sells stihl..

New saw, cost me $506 landed at my door in Nova Scotia, Canada, tax and shipping included. Bought it from Baileys on sale, pho. 5 year consumer warranty, 2 year pro. Only got 90 day with Husky warranty for pro use.

The Efco makes a pretty nice saw but I don,t think it will ever reach the sales volume or the resale value of the Stihl. The Stihl you say was 40 bucks more but 5 years from now the stihl will be worth $100.00 more.

 True a Stihl will bring more at resale but cc for cc they cost a LOT more and it will lose more of the orginal cost than a lot of other saws
MS441   $800 + new   10 years  $400
 MS361  $600 new       10years  $300
 Efco 165    $500 new   10 years  $250
 Echo  CS670   $480 new   10 years  $250
 Just a few examples of what they cost new around what they bring now on Ebay.  I bought a couple Echo CS 510 saws off Ebay new for just over $200 each 8 years ago and these saws would bring at least $175 each now, that what I call resale.   Steve

It's almost impossible to compare efco 165 and stihl ms250!
ms250 is a NON professional saw with 45cc engine (and even often with many problems on the carburetor)
165 is a heavy duty professional saw of 63cc engine:

I am the owner of a logging company. I bought the 165 for small logs/pulp and firewood. Do not think a MS 250 would be much of a saw for me. I have owned every Stihl from 024 to 088 and every Husky 200 series and 300 series from 346 to 395. Just wanted to try something different.

Got about 20 tanks thru the 165 now. First impression is that it will run with a stock 361. Has similar power delivery.Was hoping for more. Got a stock 625 Jon that is stronger than both. One of the best air filters I have seen in some time.

Plastic is alittle brittle in 0 F temps. Throttle lock is a problem for people with larger hands. Have had a couple times saw was locked WOT when hand was taken off rear handle. My hand covers the throttle lock when holding handle.

Overall I like the saw.

 The 361 and 165 are close in cc's and the 361 is one of Stihls best .  How much does a 361 cost where your at, around here they were selling for about $600. You might want to open the muffler up some if they allow that where your at, a lot of new saws come rather clogged up due to EPA regs.   Steve

Depending on where you get it a 361 is between $750 and $800. 165 cost me $525. I have had 3-361's and did not like them. Preferred the 260 for light work and 440 for bigger stuff. Here if it is not an Arctic model forget running it in winter. They ice up bad with the moisture in the air from the closeness of the ocean. Like the woods ported ones, but stock or muffler mod, no.

Going to do a muffler mod on the 165 this week.

I really like this saw. Was slow breaking in. After 30 tanks it started coming to life. I would like to have a new early 262 to try against it. It will outpull any late model 262 I had. 361 and 357 are behind it.

Like the thing so much, I am now a dealer ( not doing internet sales, sorry ). Saws came today. Stihl dealer got his first 362 today. Will try to run them against each other.

Sure, now that your a dealer you like it, did you sell used cars before?  Funnin aside, that's  a long time for break in, must be nice and tight to start with.  My 56cc Cub took a long time also, maybe it will still get better as I don't have a lot of hours on it yet.   Steve
