I picked up a husky 51 for a friend recently. After taking care of a few minor issues (threads on bar oil cap stripped, throw out the worthless safety chain and replace with chisel chain, etc), I noticed another problem:
I found a small amount of fuel mix under the saw when I picked it up. Saw had been stored on its side, with fuel and oil caps facing up. (If it makes any difference, on this saw the mixture adjustment screws are on the right side, so were facing down.) Tank was (and still is) only about 1/4 full. It started easily, ran fine at both idle and full throttle before I brought it in. It's been in my boiler room, so it's rather warm in there. I did remove and replace the caps a couple of times when I first brought it in, so as not to pressurize the tanks as it warmed up -- just in case. I've not dug into it yet to see where it's coming from, but the area near the right rear corner where the handle bolts on is where the fuel finally made it out of the case.
Any pointers on things I should look for? I'm no chainsaw mechanic, but not afraid to poke around a bit. I'm a bit knocked out from a cold right now, but hope to look at it in more detail tomorrow (Sunday 1/31). Any pointers on known issues or things to look for would be appreciated. THis friend is on a pretty tight budget, so I'm trying to help out where I can.
