What has happended to the sunny South?
« on: January 30, 2010, 07:35:26 am »
Got 8" of snow last  night, expect 4"-6" more today. We live a mile up a dirt road from the pavement, elevation change of about 500'. When it does this mess I get to go sleding on the tractor. If not scraped as soon as is quits it gets packed down into ice then nobody comes in or out. Wish I were retired so I could just leave it to melt on its own.
Winter used to be like this every year, but past 15-20 years they seem to have become milder. Made us soft I guess.
This may not sound like much to my northern friends, but this area (Western NC mountains) does not have much in the way of snow removal equipment. I may be 3-4 days before the paved road gets scraped, if it gets it at all.
Nothing is flat here either, snow/ice on a hill with a 40' drop off on the edge is a whole diffrent game than a level roadway like I lived on in New England for a while.
Can't change it but that does not mean I have to like it.
Praying for April.

Old doesn't bother me, its the ugly that's a real bummer.

We got 4 inches here. this is the third snow this winter. The last several years we have only had dustings if anything. Our first this year was Dec.3. That is the first time in my life I can remember it snowing before my birthday which is on Dec. 10. DanG global warming  :D

where is al bore when we need him. we could use a little globol warming in middle tennessee. we have 3-6 inches of snow this morning and everything is frozen. people that have been transplanted here from the north are running around telling us how we do not know how to handle a little snow.where they came from they know how to drive in snow. funny tho they seem to be the first ones found in a ditch. ;D

Here in the "Great White North" it is -12 Celsius, with the wind chill it's about -20 celsius but the sun is out and it's a nice day.

That should be about 10 F before the wind and -4 F with the wind.

Here, its the middle of the day and 34.  Just glad we didn't get any ice after all the rain yesterday.  Banjo Picker, He's been mighty quiet lately.  Maybe he's having computer problems like DanG.  I am gonna have to check on them.

Ahhh c'mon you guys it's a warm and beautiful day here.  It's only -15*C here right now.  :D  Sure alot better than it has been for most of the week where it has been in the -20's plus windchill bringing it down to the -30's.   I think I might go out and putter around..... that is after I catch up on the forum.  ;D

Salt.... ;)  You didn't think we had that stockpiled down here did you Marcel? ;D   ...I think only the counties on the northern border have the salt sheds....a concrete structure on three sides with a metal quanton hut type roof....to keep out the rain....Our county has three spreaders for the dump trucks and a couple of the little two or three hundred lbs jobs that go on the back of a pickup....in the reciever hitch....We only do the state highways.....that means don't get on the back roads... ;)  Tim
