E2300 smoking
« on: January 17, 2010, 05:34:38 pm »
Hey all,

The last few days I've notice a lot of smoke/steam coming from my chimey cleanout outlet on the back of my stove.  I do have a spark arrestor on top of my 3 stacks and my first thought is maybe that may be clogged somewhat forcing some of the smoke/steam out that cleanout.  Anyone elso have this issue.  I think I'll pop that thing off tomorrow when I have some daylight and see if that is my problem.  Thanks

Jim

That's the problem,if you have put the screen on the cap it is loaded up with gunk.Get rid of the screen, you don't need it anyway.

The smoke out the back comes from smoke flowing back through the air tubes.  I have also seen it come out the back and out the contol box.  It followes the conduit from the back to the control box.

As near as I can figure.  If there is a down draft or something the smoke flows out the path of least resistance.  It happens rarely, but I have considered removing the paper clip to reduce this.

Well I took off the spark arrestor/rain cap today.  Although it was pretty caked up it was clear and it looked like it was able to let the smoke out with no restrictions.  But................ taking it off did take care of the problem of smoke coming out of the chimney clean out.  The only reason for putting it on in the first place was it was semi close to a neighbors big old tree.  Not really close but the last thing I wanted was the local newspaper saying "Fire Chief's OWB sets neighbors tree on fire". I think I'll keep it off from now on as I'm not too much concerned about the tree anymore.

Hard Maple, looks to be slowly dying, hopefully he'll let me whack it down soon.
