Jeff: can you give us some information on the Soviet chainsaw you have. Looks like a real monster and would hate to have to make a living with it,  is it still a currently used saw by them?

 I have not had it out in awhile Its hanging overhead in my little barn with my other old saws.  Surprisingly enough, if a guy was just bucking, it's probably not that bad. The link below tells the story how I got it. To this day, I still do not know who was the responsible party that had it sent to me.

I have an older Sachs-Dolmer....70cc made in West Germany....2ft bar.....still rolls nicely, but weighs a ton......Jeff is right about the bucking...anything else wears you down...can't believe the govt. is going to be nosing into chainsaws..think we got a few more pressing problems on our country's agenda

I was making reference to the "system" that controls the production of goods. When Gov't run, they are all alike. This happened for trucks, cars, tanks, and as well...chain saws. They were "one of a kind" so no arguments or debates as to "which one is the best".  ;D ;D

And we are seeing it... EPA regs, GM now Gov't Motors, health care by Gov't.   our turn is here and now.  :)

yes, I agree too much regs on everything.....not enough on the bankers....but it's a short jump to conspiracy theories..."govt. going to take our guns" is an example..but hey, this is all about woods, environment, and carving out our slice of independent heaven...merry christmas from another bad egg

I never really tried it out. Just put it to wood a couple times, other then that, and being to a couple logging shows, it hangs in the barn.  :)

I like the idea of the holes in the bar.  That would make for a much lighter saw.  Do the holes hinder a felling saw in some way?

I may try to whack some holes in an old bar and try it out.
