These logs came off our property and caused me to join in here. These are all that is still here at least 2 full semi loads have been hauled out already.

When I first saw the pics, I was thinking this is what is left...not bad.

Looks like they are taking some pretty marginal logs with plenty of sweep.
What is the mill products they are making from these logs?

Now, do you have any pics of what is left after these logs were removed?

I will take a few pics of the mess that is left in the morning. We still have alot of trees on the place, mostly walnut again. They took 91 trees total out of here. We still have plenty left standing. This was far from a clear cut type of deal.

We have piles of smaller limbs that we are going to cut into boards. Our logger is going to haul those to the east pasture tomorrow and we will salvage all we can for boards ourselves (with help from VictorH.) The logs averaged well over 1.30 BF. A lot of veneer has already been hauled out.

The mill rough cuts, drys and make veneers to sell out.

These photos show a portion of our trees left standing. These pics were taken from my driveway. There is still a lot of timber standing that isn't shown. We have 7-8 huge burr oaks that will not be cut! They are at least 4' dia

Magic: didn't know we had that much walnut down here- you are in Mississippi, right? and you have walnut? Love to cut some of that someday; it's on my list of things to do before...

Over 90% of the trees on our place are walnut. These pictures are of my front yard, I get dizzy mowing around the trees... Murphy needs a hard hat and flack jacket by the end of the summer when I mow!!

Yes, I have walnut along the creek, but certainly not enough to market. Closer to the Mississippi River, there is much more and larger (older) trees.

I sawed a "whole house" job for a customer at Fayette, and sawed walnut for his den flooring, etc. Well over 1K BF. Trees up to 20".

There is some here, but they are spotty and scattered. Sawlog quality trees are really hard to find.

We finally got our little mill up and running tonight. I know that it's a kids toy to most of you but it works for us!! I am beginning to understand what you've all been saying abt opening one up..

Congratulations on getting your mill set up. Different size, brands, and configurations work for different folks. If your mill meets your needs......then it is exactly the mill that you need. Now you can enjoy and that is what it is all about anyway.....

We put the mill together in our shop and assembled the wooden rails there. I could tell it was gonna be dark before we got running so like a kid witha new toy.. I came back here, loaded a couple 5' logs and ran back to make saw dust out of em. I think those logs weighed abt 300 lbs each.. Today I pay for the play yesterday!! I'll upload some pics and post them in milling... Right now every time I think/say load my back makes me forget I've gotta tooth ache!!

We are allready thinking to cut some other (non walnut) trees to do some timber framing here.

figuring that you had the "New Toyitis". That is a very contageous viral infection

and you must take immediate steps to quarantine yourself preferably with the sawmill and with others displaying similiar symptons.......

We can't get the dern thing outta the shop.. It's heated and we'd rather run out cut a few logs off and run back and saw'M! I didn't even know what time it was when I posted that note.. I did know I was leave'n twin cheek marks in the snow by the time I got in last night!

I'm in good comapny too.. My brother and my sister's kid (he's 36) were in there the same as I was. I think we're on to something, I had a young man drive here from K.C. today and we let him mill his own boards. I just charged him $10. for the wood and $50.00 for the pleasure of cutting his own!!!

Neat twist on sawmilling- rent-a-mill: you supply the wood and the mill, they make lumber, and you make a whole lot more than if you just cut it yourself.

Of course, there is that little matter of liability and lawsuits... "it's all fun and games till someone loses an eye." Guess which movie that's from, not that Christmas is almost on us.

"More married" is a nice way of putting it- I like that; comes with the territory of being married, and I definitely like that. Ups and downs and all, with four kids and six grandkids- life is good after 42 years of it, and we're just getting started!

I sold some walnuts back on 2005, it was on a share deal with the logger. Just curious what 1.30 bf equal on say a 10 foot log that is 18 inches in diamater??

Thanks, some trees I had logged were over 1000 a pop and they were around 20 inch diamater. The logger said they were of excellent quality with very little sapwood. Most of them resprouted so I put guards up to keep the deer from browsing them and hope to harvest some walnuts to plant elsewhere on the farm for my son to harvest in the future.
