Decommissioned Sawdust Burner / Heat Exchanger **SOLD**
« on: December 03, 2009, 03:09:22 pm »
For Sale.
Decommissioned Sawdust Burner / Heat Exchanger originally designed for heating a home and shops using band saw sawdust.

This unit was de-commissioned by the manufacturer and the computer controls were returned to the manufacture as requested. The rest of the unit is intact and for sale. Burner unit, and fans, propane assist burner and hardware, fuel hopper and auger, ash removal system, heat exchanger, taco recirculating pump, entire wire harness are all included. Absolutely everything but the controls that were sent back to the manufacture are included.

I think someone with the right tools and know how could turn this into something.

Help pay for some Forestry Forum server fees by buying it for $800   I don't want to have to part it out to sell it, even though the parts are worth far more then $800

Here ya go.

The bottom photo was me lifting the lid to the hopper and trying to take a shot donw in it. That is where the remaining electronics and other odds and ends have been stowed for safe keeping like the blowers and igniters and wire harness and such.

Well I know what it was when it was a sawdust burner. I believe it was 150,000 btu.  Using the propane, I dont know.  I'm sure the heat exchanger could be fitted to the top of a wood burner of some sort, maybe it could even be converted to burn pellets or something. Someone with some imagination might be able to even make it burn sawdust again.

Jeff,

I think I can come up with a controller or a reasonable facsimile thereof, so I will take it off your hands at the asking price.  Will it fit in the back of a full size pickup?  Can you come up with a way to put it in a pickup?  Or do I need to pull a trailer?

Good Questions.  :D    We used a tractor to set the heat exchanger on top as it weighs, I THINK, around 400 lbs.  I don't have a tractor at my disposal.  I'm not positive, but am almost certain everything would fit in a pick up.  The only way I can figure that we could lift the top off without a tractor is to make a  tripod over it with say hardwood 4 by 4s, and use a come-a-long.

Know anyone with a bucket truck that would do a favor?  How about an engine hoist?  I can imagine that there will be a way if we think a little bit.  There must be a rental shop in town.  When is a good day to pick it up?

No rental shop.  :-\   The only tractor I know of is the cement plant about a mile away, but they are closed up for the season.  I'm so out of the loop from not being at the mill in over 5 years I know no one around here any more.

I wonder if we could create some sort of boom using that tree right behind it in the photo?

Any day is a good day. Only plans I have for not being here the rest of the winter is supposedly going with Pete next Thursday to the cabin for the weekend to go black powder hunting and button up the cabin for the winter.

Tom:
I been on/off work every other week, let me know I might be able to ride along and help out.   Might even be able to help with controls. (as you know I did a lot of heating systems.)

Thanks Mark I will keep that in mind.  I may have to look you up and brainstorm with you a bit.

Roland is the one with the flooring shop and actually buying it, and he will be riding along.  We plan on burning the chips from the flooring operation to warm up the shop a bit.  I am of the opinion that we will be running this full force when we run it, so controls should not be too difficult.  I see a temp controller for water temp and another to switch between propane and chips.  I think a couple rheostats for fan and auger speed should suffice.  Would be nice to pick up one of the old controllers, but the money pot is not anywhere close to overflowing, in fact, i think I see the bottom of the pot most of the time.

BBTom:

No problem, just an FYI: I have 4ea 4x4 posts that are connected in pairs with a base 2x and top 2x lagged into them, with holes drilled about every 8" in the 4x4 across from each other that a pipe can slide through.   these were used for a weight bench dead lift stops and were in a basement where my GF place.   Something similar could be adapted to make a portable crane using a 2x6 to lift the boiler up. and back under it.   similar to the design that was used to lift the pyramid stones up.   just a thought.

I'll be making a few runs at the Sap/Syrup making this year again, I'm low enough to meed more for following year.   HOPING that it is better than last year was, even though I didnt make any last year it sure was a cruddy season...

Here's an idea I've used to load logs.  Call someone with a wrecker.  Have him come over and lift with his boom.  I've done this and they just charged me an hourly rate.
