Carrying case for my 2171
« on: November 17, 2009, 04:11:55 pm »
I am looking for a carrying case for my 2171 that I just bought.  My friend has Jonsered on that fights it but they dont make them anymore.  Does anyone know where I could pick one up at?  I would really like to find the Jonsered one to match it.

Do some looking, you can probably still find a Husky one, they will fit up to that size saw.  northern tool Note:Please read the Forestry Forum's postion on this company in DesMoines had some a few months back, may check their catalog.
So many trees, so little money, even less time.

Cases for the larger saws are hard to find, they are generally available for the smaller consumer saws. I have yet to see one that will accept a bar longer than 20". Most loggers will build a box that will also hold files, oil, grease gun, spare chains what have you.
I have a case for my small Homelite but it is a pita, the saw sits in a pool of oil and sawdust.

Pretty much what sawguy21 said. People who use plastic saw cases usually have the smaller consumer saws like you find in department stores. Most people who buy a premium larger saw aren't willing to mess with the hassle of using a plastic case.

Somewhere I saw a guy with a case that enclosed just the body of the saw, and used the separate plastic bar guard over the bar. His bar guard had a slight flare at the base that fit inside of and helped hold it into his case. I can't remember the brand, but it did solve the problem of fitting a long bar in his case. If I run across him in the near future, I'll pass the word on what he has.

I don't use a case, just a bar guard. If someone wanted to give me one, I'd probably use it on some occasions... It might reduce the incidence of bar oil stains in the back of the minivan (my wife just loves that look. and the aroma... it's like a redneck air freshener).

Even Lowe's sells the Husqvarna box for $40-$45. Heck with color coordinating the box with the saw  :D. Just get the husky one  if you have to have a pretty plastic box ???
