gearmatic problems

my gear matic 19 stopped working today. the cams or shims are cutting into the brake bands?. im not fimilar with the internal parts on the winch. the part that sucks the winch in has a rubber boot and a plunger in it keeps coming out and leaking fluid

sounds like the slave cylinder is shot and needs a rebuild  the cams fit in those grooves..  dinner is ready sorry got to go...............

TF87, if it has been leaking onto the bands, they will need a good cleaning and drying before you get it back together.  Somewhere on here on one of the winch posts, there was mention of napa parts for that cylinder for real cheap.  If you need a copy of the 19/119 manual, you may be able to download it from the Paccar website.  That is where I downloaded it a few years back, if you can't find it, PM me and I will email a copy of the one I have to you.  Having the manual really makes it easier.  Good luck.

it is the rubber cup inside the winch it has a big hole in it, and i have been missing a o ring on the line that goes inside side if the winch it has been leaking for a while and i didnt know it, the brake fluid made 3 of my 4 bands come apart. i either have to get new bands or get them redone. im going to try to get them redone, because brand new they are $880. if i get them redone its $300

I would spend the money to buy new bands. A friend of mine tried reman ones from a local shop here and had problems with them. At first they hung up on the drum and always needed adjustment, and once he had them set right they didn't last near as long as the OEM ones. The brake fluid versions of that little cylinder are usually pretty cheap also, so buy new there too. If you take into account the time and production you lose when parts like that act up the 580 dollars more for new bands that will last you the next 5+ years is a small price to pay for knowing the winch is rebuilt with new parts and will pull wood every day. Just my 2 cents, but its a lesson I have learned the hard way more than once.

PA faller is right. I had my brake bands relined and they were to thick and wouldn't even fit back on between the casting and drum.I used a rasp to file it down to fit and it still is hard to pull the cable out.
 I have the manual also.
