Big places charge a bunch of different prices, but they have "rough" planers, and finish planers, so you should be sure and say that yours is finish planed which is comparing apples to apples.  I charge $.25 bd ft for finish planing.

We charge .15 cents a board foot to plane lumber they buy from us. We aren't really making any money at it, but it helps sell lumber. About 40% of the kiln dried lumber we sell we have to plane.
We charge 40 dollars an hour if we custom plane. We are running a Delta planer with a 24" spiral Newman head.

Charge what you need to make money.  I charged 25 cents and thought it was good...the big mill down the road charged 10 cents and thought it was good...I would go broke at that price.

18" planer tells us nothing...how fast is it?  Can you send multiply boards through it and not have kickbacks?

I charge $45.00 an hour to plane wood. The brake down is simple $15.00 for each operator, the other $15.00 goes to planer knives, power bill, maintenance and planer up grades.

I charge ¢10 per linear foot per side.  Will sometimes give a break for small stock when I can feed more than 1 piece at a time.  I don't like to charge a board foot price for a linear foot process.

We charge $.10 for 1 side $.15 if we do both.  This is our own cedar though.  Nothing else.
We can plane 1000 square feet per hour with 2 people with our 26" helical head Northtech. All shavings are run through a granulator and screened and sold for 15 to 25 cents per pound, so we do well on the waste too.

I am thinking of going up in planing price though.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.
