Banding lumber for storage

I'm a beginner sawyer and have milled about 150 true 2x4 and 2x6 in the last couple weeks from pin oak logs. I have a old tobacco barn where I've neatly stacked the wood nice and tight. I was wondering how important it is to band the wood for quality boards. I realize that knotty boards are going to bow, but how much does banding reduce the amount of movement in the wood while drying?

Did you put stickers in your stack?

Yes, I used 50in 1x1's about 18in apart and end coated the boards.

Then weight on top of the pile will keep pressure on the layers of wood.
Banding will lose its effectivness shortly when drying and shrinkage occurs.

Also, steel in contact with oak or other wood with tannin will develop an ugly, blue/black stain.
