What you gonna use for the bed rails and their attachment?  :)

I haven't given up on my project, just a few steps each day. I found a tree for the sides, cut it down, took it to lou's via my LogRite arch, split it on his wood-mizer as mine is about 8 miles away, besides, his is a lot more fun to play with. ;D

Brought the halves home and started laying out the mortise and tenon joints to join the rails and posts.  I have the footboard fitted to the rails. The headboard is next. It gets a bit more complicated i do believe due to the buttresses.

The tenon is 1.75" by 6" by 3"  so I think they should be strong enough.

Are you going to glue the tenons in the head and foot board mortises and sleep outside? :-\  Or, are you going to peg the tenons in the mortises so the rails can be removed and the bed moved indoors? 8)

By the size of that thing you should probably build a roof over it, you will never get it into the cabin. 8)

I just have a few final fit work to do on the joints, then install the small cedar poles that will support the box springs, and then some sort of finish, and I'll be done. Should take no more then a week or three :)

I could tell you how I was going to do it, but I have changed my mind on that.  :D I'm in the midst of brainstorming a different method. Since none of that will be visible once the box springs are on, I am considering using lumber instead of log. I'll saw out what I need when I go back over to the Patrick's place to saw.

The Bed is going home.  Tammy has claimed it. :)

Jeff,
Maybe a pedestal bed with no box springs? Just slats across and lay the matteress on top.

Looking good Jeff. You've got a good eye for the curves. How did you peel the logs? By hand or with a pressure washer?
