air drying walnut white oak

this has probly been discused befofe but i cant find it ,when storing walnut oak cherry lumber in a old barn to air dry which is the best way to stack it , put spacers between each layer or lay flat one layer on top of another  ??? 8)

I'd vote for stickering it and not dead piling it, if it is air dried now.

The eb and flow of different humidities will cause some shrinking and swelling, so having that happen uniformly on both board faces will give you better long term storage.

There are tradeoffs but stickering will be a good way to go.

Guess I would say the same if it is kiln dried now. But would expect the wood to gain some moisture over time.
All depends on the relative humidity during storage.

You say you want to put it in a barn to air dry it? Then definitely use sticks. Otherwise, mold and bugs will destroy it.
