Schedule on drying in Nyle once below 25%MC
« on: March 08, 2009, 12:17:01 pm »
Howdy,
I've heard it said, and maybe from Nyle, but can't remember that once you are below 25% you don't have to worry about drying too fast?  I've got some impatient customers who would like their wood yesterday.  In red oak the Nyle manual says 2.5%MC per day max, but is this true once you get down below 25%MC?  Anyone know?  My kiln is running pretty low, i'm at 40% on the compressor so i could take off alot more water if i upped the temps and compressor settings, but don't want to hurt anything.  Whats the word on the street here?
Thanks
kelvin

Kelvin, once you get below 25% you can safely accelerate the drying rate.

Having said that, usually I stick with the schedule, and follow the 3% per day target for oak, even if it's below 25%.  The reason why is in the event that I have some slower drying wood in the pile, by sticking with a conservative schedule I don't have to worry about damaging it.
