056 bar upgrade
« on: February 12, 2009, 02:28:02 am »
I have some larger wood to go thru so I recently bought from Baileys an Oregon 28 inch bar and skip tooth chain combofor my Stihl 056. I have been cutting hardwood and am having problems with it going straight. I never had problems like this with the 20 inch bar. I have the oiler up all the way. It is getting hot and smoking the bar. I only cut for about a half hour, I filed the chain and tried it again, started to cut Ok then went away. I do have some regular tooth chains, I guess I'll try that next. I don't know if the skip tooth is the best to be using.

Should not be a problem on a new bar but check that the rails are even.

Another possibility is a 0.063 groove bar and a 0.050 chain
