Just got my Cooks auto sharpener today! AWESOME!

Blade roller and setter also. Well built well thought out.
Not sure how the learning curve will go.
Does anyone have the semi-auto tooth setter?? Or a diamond stone for sharpener?

I have about the same set up except for the setter. I have the single tooth setter. It does a good job but it is rather slow. Have been second-guessing not getting the upgrade. Tim

$850 bucks price diff between the two setters makes for a lot of second guessing.

But it sure is nice when you can accurately set a blade ( 12'6" ) in 3 minutes.

Congrats on the Cook's sharpener.......I love mine.....i have the single setter......My bands are 14 feet and I can set one in 7 minutes if it has no abuse. Lots of threads here on sharpening.......Did you get the dvd with Tim Cook demonstrating the equipment? If not, they have been known to supply one N/C......Good luck sharpening.......

Enjoy! I have never seen the need for the roller, but others here swear by them. Nothing like cutting wood with a blade that is sharper than when it came out of the box new.

I've got the same sharpener but an older dual setter. I can set a 13'2" blade in about 2 minutes. I also have and old WM setter and sharpener I don't use any more. I really like WM products but I'll have to say I like the Cooks sharpener and setter better.

It's in pretty poor condition. Maybe that's why I like te cooks so much better. I hadn't really thought about selling it yet. I'll give it some thought.

The Cooks cats claw sharpener is built like an old Mack truck,should last a fella a lifetime.Its hypmotizing[sp] to sit and watch it work.I like the blue ceramic wheels [rocks to you southern boys]they seem to last forever.I can't bring myself to tap a running grinding wheel as cooks recomends to knock off dull grits.I built my own two side setter on the same principal as the timberwolf can set two bands in the time it takes to sharpen one.Captain may have a picture of it I forget.You can't go wrong with a Cooks sharpener.Cooks sells many different cams I usally use the timberwolf cam for most bands,I like a good gullet,one or two sharpenings and they conform.Frank C.

Yeah i actually got the single tooth and was second guessing as well. So far no problems. probably 20 blades sharpened and set. No rolling yet . ha ha.

One thing I found with my Cat Claw is to dress the stone real lightly every few blades - You'll get a sharper tooth & less chance of burning if the stone is clean.

Mike, do you use the blue ceramic wheel or the new one they just came out with??A diamond dresser with many small diamonds is the best I've found for shaping and dressing.Frank C.

In the flyer I got today, they have a "GOLD SERIES" one.
Supposed to do a quite a bit smoother grind and last twice as long as their other "rocks"!
They're $24.30 each.

I am giving thought to trying the gold series but it will be a while yet. i still have another WM one left and three pink ones from Menominee. If somebody is using them let us know how they do.

i tried that tapping deal for a bit then quit. i use an air compressor to blow the rock after i shape it. and i may shape it every 5 or 10 bands now. the blue rocks last awhile for me. i would like to hear a report on the gold ones or even the pink ones.

The pink one I used had a very short life.

I have tjhe same experiance with the pink ones. Supposedly they don't get as hot and they do leave a finer grind, but they're not much for anything that need a lot of material taken off. Real light passes only.
