Winter Movies
« on: January 27, 2009, 07:26:41 pm »
Not movies about winter, but what movies do y'all watch when you're snowed in?

We just went through our process of elimination, where we pick out a handful of trusty stand-bys, and ended up after the "Naw, not this one. Not this one. Not this one."

We ended up with Fargo, Josey Wales, and Jeremiah Johnson. Been too long since we seen Josy so that's what we're watching. Right now Fletcher just said "There's another old saying Senator. Don't whiz down my back and tell me it's rainin."

I need to get my priorities lined out here now though. The y ankees are making the Rebs swear an allegiance to the Union. Fixing to massacre them. I'm gettin mad I better go.

Oh yeah, what movies do y'all watch frequently?

We watch a lot of science fiction (Tron, The Matrix, Dune, etc) and comedies (Real Genius is one of my favorites).  I really like Jeremiah Johnson but the Mrs doesn't, so I don't get to watch it very often.

Add Silverado to the list, wife not crazy about it. She likes Quigley down under, so do I, so it is a stand by.

Jeremiah Johnson is one of my favorites. Lonesome dove, Quigly down under, The Cowboys. We don't own many movies, but get netflix and you can watch them on demand with the internet for no extra charge all day long. Pretty nice in bad weather.

"Second Hand Lions" is a favorite followed by the "Lord Of the Rings Trilogy"  Josey Wales was on the History Channel a couple nights back.  First time I'd watched it in a long time  8) 8)  It was good as always  :)

I am probably not a good one to answer the question as I seldom watch a movie more than once. Don't even have much time to watch once. Only occasionally will I sit thru something more than once. I kind of lose interest when I already know the words.   ;D

But I wonder if others like to watch something again and again. My wife likes to get out her "Andy Griffith" or "Little House on the Prairie" series and play them over and over.  ::)

Got "The whole nine yards " off the bargain rack at walmart, good flick.  Last man standing is good.  My son loaned me"Bandits", a BB Thornton film, and that was good.  Watched it last Sunday.  Jim

I like to watch Budd Abbott and Lou Costello movies, Tom Sawyer and Huckberry Finn type stuff, most WWII movies, especially the ones of Airplanes and most ship battles. I love Kelly's Hero's and look forward to Donald Sutherland as Sgt. Oddball, spraying paint all over the place and playing his music through the loudspeakers. Muphy's War is one that has me verbally and animatedly pulling for Peter O'Toole.  Heaven knows, Mr. Allison is one of the few war films that leave you feeling upbeat and Father Goose, with Cary Grant, leaves me rolling in the floor.

The one movie I can't seem to get enough of is "The God's Must be Crazy".   It's not a steady diet, but I dont know what I'm going to do if my VCR gives up and I have to find it on the latest recording media. :D

I am a big movie watcher i love about anything that is made. ErickC you can get a Those movies to play on your Tv if you  have a Xbox or something else. I have just joined Netflix and am new to the whole thing but i like it so far. i got the dark night the new bat man movie and mad it thru to about an hour and half and the movie just would not play anymore its a 2 and half hour movie so i reported it. I am still kind of not sure if its worth the money yet. I had a movie before that never show up so i reported it missing  and then i got two of the same movie the same day. I will give it a couple of more movies and see what happens if nothing goes right i am going to cancle my membership. Have you had any problems?

Eastwood westerns and Dirty Harry movies, The first 3 Rockies ;D , Star Trek movies and TOS, MASH series, Columbo series, I've been watching Boston Legal for the first time on DVD, World at War TV series, I can't list all the movies. By the time I watch them all, it's time the recycle and watch them again. :D

You can't beat J.Johnson. That been said, "Master and Commander" is a fantastic movie that I could watch once a week. I also like "On any Given Sunday".  The second one is certainly NOT for the kids.

TexasTimbers, here is another quote from Outlaw Josey Wales...."Buzzards and worms have to eat too."

It's actually "He!l with them fellas. Buzzards gotta eat . . same as the worms". spit.

Sorry, I am sort of picky about Wales quotes. ;D

90%of the movies y'all mentioned we love and watch also. Quigley is great. Kelly's Heroes and yep Sutherland is fantastic in it.

Some of our favorites, that you guys may enjoy:

  • You Can't Take it With You (1938)
  • Sargeant York (1941)
  • Captains Courageous (1937)
  • A Man Called Peter (1955)
  • Mr Smith Goes To Washington (1939)
  • My Name Is Nobody (1973)

We also enjoy a lot of old Hitchcock movies.  I've still never seen the Birds or Psycho, and for a while I assumed that was the general kind of films Hitchcock made, but I was wrong.  He made a whole slew of films.  Among them is one of the best suspense movies ever made:  Rear Window.  Also of enjoyment:  North by Northwest, Charade, and To Catch a Thief.
