Any I D what this is?
« on: January 25, 2009, 12:58:07 am »
I found this little tree or shrub in the edge of my neighbor's woods, just over the fence from my pasture.  It caught my eye because it was in full bloom with 20 degree nights and 40 degree days.  It is loaded with clusters of tiny white flowers.  Neither Tom nor I remember ever seeing one like it before, and I've shown a branch to some other folks who are equally puzzled.  Some of you gurus want to take a crack at it?

Well kiss my foot! We shoulda got that. ::)  Not being a hunter, I'm pretty much a sofa spud in the wintertime, so I guess I just haven't noticed them blooming before.

Next time I've got the backhoe, I'll just reach over the fence and eliminate that little character from the scene.  This is the only example I know of around here, and they are highly toxic to baby horses.  That's what killed all those Thoroughbred foals a couple of years ago, and I don't need a start of it here.

Make sure you crush a leaf and smell it before you eliminate it.  Smells just like maraschino cherries :)

looks like some sort of cherry tree to me too.  I was going to guess chokecherry.
