chain saw tech manuals
« on: December 23, 2008, 09:58:33 am »
Guys,

Is there a place on-line that you can access chainsaw tech-service manuals and/or "exploded" parts view diagrams?  I belong to a couple tractor-restoration forums and when rebuilding an MS TSX-245 carb on a JohnDeere 1951 MT, I was able to obtain a real good parts diagram.

If so, I am looking for the info on the Stihl 029 Farm Boss.

Many Thanks,
tstex

You can get almost any owners manual for any Stihl saw directly from Stihl's website.  If your saw is not on the list... they will send you a copy of one in the mail for free.  Click the link below...

Unfortunately the owner's manuals are of very little use unless you have never seen or operated a chainsaw before. Page after page of basic operating and safety procedures with no technical info any more involved than pointing out where the kill switch and spark plug are located.

The parts lists with blowup diagrams are much more helpful and those are the ones that are tricky to find. Stihl doesn't want them posted or sold online due to 'copyright violations', but they have no say over individuals sharing them privately.  ;)

Yep... the problem with having the IPL's available for free on the internet... is that people have been making copies and selling them on ebay... Stihl don't like that... :)

Cut4fun,

Is there a way to get a hold of the IPL's & Tech Ser Manuals all on one CD for both the 023 & 029?  If so, I would be willing to make an appropriate donation to the cause, and endorse Stihl to any new prospective c-saw buyers.

BTW, what does a Tech Ser Manual go for via Stihl?  I had to pay $112.00 & $28.00 to get the entire TSM for a 1951 MT JD tractor from Deere...what a rip!  however, no one forced me to buy it, but it sure made re-building the hydraulics a bit easier, considering it was the first time i ever did anything mechanical...the forums saved my butt.

Have a safe & HNY guys,
tstex

I already have the Stihl IPL for my 064 ( even though I think a couple part numbers have changed ) but, not for my MS310.  We have several Stihls at work ( string trimmers, pole saw, hedge trimmer, MS200T ).  Does anyone have the IPL's for the "other Stihl products".  I can get exact model numbers if needed.  I find it so much easier to look up the parts myself & just call the dealer to see if he has the parts on hand instead of driving to the dealer and pointing out which pieces you need.

2stroker, welcome to the forum.  :)
Many of us are aware of that website, but Tommy already had to pull those pages down once a few years back when Stihl's lawyers got after him. People were printing the IPLs and selling them on ebay. So most of us that know about it try to keep it on the down-low and share it privately without posting the website publicly.

Exactly Brian... One of these days they are going to be gone for good because people keep posting the link...  I know it can be found via a google search, but the link should be taken out of this thread by the mods if at all possible.
