" Mann " Axe

Howdy all! Anybody out there know anything about the Mann corporation  in Lewistown Pa? Got a really nice double bit at an auction recently that was made by this company. The old fellow that was selling out took such good care of his tools it could be 5 years old or 105 years old. It looks like a felling style as it has depressions at the top and bottom of each of the blades, and the only reason that I could come up with for them being there was to make it easier to withdraw it from a tree you were felling. Anybody ever sen one like this or similar? Thanks Saki.

They buy up a bunch of hickory logs to make handle stock.

I've heard handle buyers specify the maximum number of rings per inch in hickory. They don't want tight growth ring wood because it is lower density, weaker and breaks "brashy". Have any of you run across that specification?
