Sarah Palin Gov. of Alaska would be my choice  8)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Palin

Fox News is just talking about this..

McCain to Name VP Pick on Friday; Pawlenty, Romney Appear to be Out of Running - Fox News

"DENVER — Speculation about who John McCain would name as his running mate focused on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin after reports circulated early Friday that two short-listers — Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty — were out out of the running.

Adding fuel to the Palin possibility was a report that a charter aircraft from Anchorage had arrived in Dayton, Ohio, where McCain has scheduled a noon ET rally to announce his choice."

There were a few more details on TV about how this links with the McCain campain.

Corley5 brought her name up in the topic first on Aug 24.  But I think I was the first with the rumor and later with the news.

CNBC has went out on a limb and announced that Sarah Palin is McCain's VP pick.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin Is McCain's VP Pick: Source- CNBC

But we're all happy..  That's the big thing.!!  8)

We'll see how it plays out, but right now I'm with you folks. Yippee!!!  Everything I know I have learned about Palin since noon today.  McCain pulled it off with style.  Shows his crew can plan and execute.  Actions speak loudly.  No 3AM text messages here.  Again Yippee!!!

Warbird, your opinion is worth a lot.

This is really going to be fun!

To the Democrats, putting Sarah on the ticket was like dowsing a hornet’s nest with gasoline.   But they’ll get organized and come after her.  They’ll drag out every old left-wing feminist and line them up to slap Sarah’s face.  (No.  Correct that.  They’re already lining up.)  I hope she punches them all in the nose. Metaphorical of course.    boxingsmiley

Given her record, and of course they have to win, but I'll be looking for some of the corrupt in the senate to be up on charges just like that guy in Alaska.

I can agree with the pick to a good extent.  she is young is what they will say about her (young eh my age :D) but in politics that is what is needed too many people that were teens in the 60's free love mind set that thinks that we all should be wearing nothing but hemp based skirts & having sit-ins at the congress instead of getting things done!!  >:(  We haven't had one dam thing done for the people since the NEW congress was put into office under promises to change every thing...

I have to admit I didn't know much of anything about her until Kudro on CNN (he is the guy who started the big DRILL DRILL DRILL thing) mentioned her.   Last night was pretty interesting on his show to say the least.!!  8)  I'm glad he picked her as in 4~8 years I think she would make excellent press ;)

I'm hoping it don't hurt this years election (McCane's that is) is my only fear.  as if lord oboma gets in there we will all be his peasants bound to do his bidding...  While I was praying hillory didn't get in there as VP or as dem's front runner I'm glad we got 2 REAL FOR CHANGE people for the republicans...   the last 3~5 elections there hasn't been one great candidate only mediocre ones.  at least now we have 2 on one ticket that are (Hoping & Praying) will actually stand up for way they have been saying they will do!...  8) ::) eh eh

In the end, her nomination doesn't change much in the big picture IMO. Her pros and cons kind of cancel each other out.

Yes, as a young fresh voice and definitely not too hard on the eyes, sure is a nice change from the wrinkly old white haired guy ;)

But the dems are going to have a field day with her zilch experience, as they should. Given his age and health issues, this is a real issue. I can see the ad now: Who do you want staring down Vlad Putin? A President Biden or President Palin?

She did a nice job speaking yesterday, just up the road from me in Dayton. It will be interesting how she does in the VP debate.

Lets face it the reason she's there is twofold a) placate the base/social conservatives b) attract female and independent voters. A man with the same background/record wouldn't have even been considered.

So far, for a) it looks to be mission accomplished. b) remains to be seen.

Either way I think McCain had to do something bold to have a chance. If he's going to go down, he's going down swinging!

Greg

I think she is put there to placate the far right constituents of the Republican party.  But, that allows McCain to drift more towards the center and attract the moderate Republican and Deomcrats, and some of the true Libertarians.  His drift towards center would negate some of the Biden effect of pulling Obama ticket towards the center.  Biden also has an age factor, as he's only a 7 years younger than McCain.

I'm not so sure she will appeal to the Hillary voter, unless they are just a gender issue voter.

I look forward to a VP debate between Biden and Palin.  That should prove to be more entertaining than Obama/McCain.

We’ll tell in the next two months what the outcome will be.  The Democrats are just now trying to rally the troupes and figure out some way of attacking this woman without making a lot of people mad.

It hasn’t dawned on them yet that if McCain/Palin/Republicans pull this off,  AND Palin proves popular as a VP,  it’s likely it’ll be Palin 2012.  AND (that a big and) it’ll be Palin again in 2016!

One thing that some are overlooking about experience is that she has ran both a local government and  a state government.  This is a lot different than being a senator.  She is the only one on either ticket that has executive experience.  I think that she certainly has more experience than Obama at being in command.  As his only experience is a short time as a legislator.  Even Mcaine's only experience is as a legislator.  Both Biden and Mcaine have more legislative experience than Obama.  The one one the short end of experience in my opinion is Obama.  It would be very interesting to see an actual debate without teleprompters between both the presidential hopefuls and the VP hopefuls.  I think both Mcaine and Palin will come off well due not only their govermental experience but because of their life experiences.  Just my thoughts.

I don’t think they’re overlooking it as much as they’re trying to minimize it.  To some,  the Federal government is the source for all things good.  And to be a US Senator is something of great honor – the holder of great power to give or take.

Let Palin Be Palin – William Kristol – Weekly Standard.

“So what we will see in the next days and weeks--what we have already seen in the hours after her nomination--is an effort by all the powers of the old liberalism, both in the Democratic party and the mainstream media, to exorcise this spectre. They will ridicule her and patronize her. They will distort her words and caricature her biography. They will appeal, sometimes explicitly, to anti-small town and anti-religious prejudice. All of this will be in the cause of trying to prevent the American people from arriving at their own judgment of Sarah Palin.”

“A key moment for Palin will be the vice presidential debate, to be held at Washington University in St. Louis on October 2. One liberal commentator--a former U.S. ambassador and not normally an unabashed vulgarian--licked his chops Friday afternoon: "To steal an old adage of former Secretary of State James Baker .  .  . putting Sarah Palin into a debate with Joe Biden is going to be like throwing Howdy Doody into a knife fight!"”

I may be badly wrong, but I am licking my chops as well.  I suspect if ol' Joe gets in that verbal knife fight with that lady, he may well be carrying some (verbal) organs home in a plastic bag. :D
