The quality and dryness of wood definately makes a difference but not to the extent you are experiencing. We also have a e2300 and didn't have a chance to enough wood this fall so we have been cutting and splitting oak and elm all winter. The elm is fairly dry but the oak literally drips water and the entire chamber is wet with creosote from the wet wood, but as long as we keep the fire chamber, reaction chamber and tubes clean we never have a problem with it holding Temperature or excessive wood use.

Keep in mind that we are heating close to 10,000 sq ft at 72 deg F plus a 35,000gal indoor pool maintained at 87deg F. This is all done with one fill every 12 hours.

I would keep looking into issues with the CB and not with the wood you are using. As with our experience keep it clean and it will maintain 185 no problem. Hope you get it figured out.

Can I ask what State you are in and how many cords have you gone through this year so far. You also wonder what it is that makes these OWB burn so different? I am now on my second boiler as my first one had issues and Central Boiler replaced it at no cost. I am heating three house with mine (my house 1355 sq ft, 80 feet from boiler plus heating my hot water, my daughters house is an old trailer with additions and is 930 sq ft and 80 feet from boiler, fathers house is an old farmhouse and is 1200 sq ft and 411 feet from boiler) I fill my boiler twice a day.My first boiler some times wouldn't get up to temp after everything was cleaned out and finally found the fusion chamber had ruptured. My dealer is Rick Young out of Conway NH and I can't say enough about him and his wife Donna and how good they have been through my whole ordeal with Central Boiler. I now am running an e-classic dual fuel and haven't yet hooked up the gas to it. Is there anyone out there that has used their dual fuel with the gas only and if so how hard is it on gas? I am not planning on trying to heat all with gas but wanted an idea on wood to gas ratio.

Jscott, something else is definetly wrong. I live in the lower part of Maine, burn crap pine chocks, 2x6's and have only gone through approx.7 cord so far. I also have some older pine logs that burned ok and am into some cherry and oak that was just cut and split before the winter, no drying time at all. Now that doesn't burn as good, but have no problem keeping the boiler at 185. I cut up a fallen birch tree, approx 8" in diameter last weekend and through that in there and dropped 5 degrees. I clean the reaction chamber every Sat or Sunday as the crap pine and boards I burn have nails and staples in them. I barely get any ash, just a lot of metal from the wood.

I think CB needs to look into it a little more than they want to....

Tell us more about the Fusion Combustor rupture. Was it in the back of the reaction chamber or below the steel rods? More info please.

I first noticed it when I was cleaning out the ashes in the Reaction Chamber. I noticed metal hanging down in the chamber. When I went to shut it down for a new Fusion Combuster to be put in I then noticed that it had ruptured on top in the firebox as well. So the air instead of blowing down or sideways was blowing straight up into the firebox so the reaction chamber wasn't working and I was not able to get temperature up. So to answer your question it was both. I have been watching your weekly updates and I am impressed with your wood use. What is Soft Elm compaired to as far as hardwood goes. Your boiler seems to be one of the most efficient ones that I have heard of.

How do you set the controls so that you can give it a shot of air so the fire won't go out. Are you setting it so that it thinks it is giving it a shot of gas? And I am looking for someone to give me answers about gas use in the dual fuel model.

I'm burning very dry and split Siberian Elm which has 19.5 MBTU's per cord compared to Red Oak which has 24 MBTU's per cord or Black Locust which has 26.8 MBTU's per cord. I think the biggest reason my boiler is working so well is the dry wood and the fact that my thermo-pex is 6'-9' deep in the ground. Thanks for the up-date on the Fusion Combustor. I to noticed a rupture yesterday in the reaction chamber. Will be cleaning it up within the hour for my dealer to inspect.

I to have bad news to report on the Fusion combustor. As posted before I saw a rupture in the Fusion combustor inside the reaction chamber. After looking closer therer is also one inside the fire box below the rods. My dealer called CB and talked to Bob Lewis and told him what he was looking at. Bob told my dealer that the Fusion combustor was a serviceable item. He said they would send a new one out but labor would not be covered. My dealer said he would cover that. If you have a older model like mine built in Nov. of 08 the Fusion combustor comes out through the reaction chamber, on the newer ones it comes out through the fire box. CB clearly has a design defect here. I've only burned 10 cords of wood in this thing. Take a close look inside your units guys. As of now mine is keeping up with temp (but it's 45 out) don't know what would happen if it was -20. I think we all need to put the heat on CB to get this problem part of their warranty and find a fix so you don't have to put one in every 10 cords.

I took some pics yesterday and will try to post today. In the fire box clean the ash away and take out the two steal rods. You will see a half moon shape. My rupture is on the top and on the left hand side below where the closest rod would be. In the reaction chamber remove ash get on your hands and knees and look all the way to the back. My rupture in in the circle part of the half moon and drops down into the reaction chamber. My burner is still keeping up temp.

That is what I am wondering Hackberry - If it is just cracked refractory that doesn't seem like a big deal to fix. When I hear the word "rupture" I think of the water jacket rupturing and leaking. Please clarify.
