Tree Common Name
« on: May 23, 2008, 07:04:13 am »

Any of you tree ID experts want to try to find a common name for this tree???  I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks.

I'm guessing it won't be common around here...

From wikipedia:
The tropical rainforest tree Copaifera langsdorffii is known as the diesel tree and kerosene tree. It has many names in local languages, including kupa'y, cabismo, and copaúva.

Another site had it as:
Copaifera langsdorffii Desf.
Engl.: copaiba, balsam copaiba, balsam of copaiva, capivi, copaiv

I was thinking also that it may be Copaiba or a very close relative.
Here are some photos of a finished sample, fresh cut -White , and air dried red.
It is many times sold as Mahogany.  All of these photos are of the same log.
