how big of a genset
« on: April 26, 2008, 09:46:36 pm »
i am getting a planer moulder that needs 105 amps at 480 volt maximum draw. i believe that watts = amps x volts. this works out to around a 50kw genset, but all the gensets i see that are in that size range list max amps at 480 volt at far less than 105. what gives?

My 208v 25kw puts out 105 amps. Seems a high voltage 50 kw should also put out at least 105. ??? Are you sure it's a 50 kw and not kva? kva was explained to me as a theoretical number wheras kw is what you actually get after factoring in electrical "slippage"
