The weak point is its a ford and not a cat.

It is setting on the lot, waiting for tomorrow.

Does anybody know what transmission fluid this brute takes?

Also should it be on the full mark when hot or cold?

I figure all that info was on the side engine cover, it's gone.

Have one major issue with this machine. When you first start it up cold it doesn't want to move, after warm up moves, seems almost like it is slipping. The that brought it out is trying to sell it for his sister, he has no personal history with this machine. He came out awhile ago and drained the tranny fluid. I strained it to check for dirt or steel, clean as can be, not burnt either. The question I have is, could this thing have the wrong fluid in it? Have new filters ordered.

All my ford tractors as well as my wheel loader takes hydratrans fluid. It's just a good grade hydraulic oil. But before you go to far like corley said change the filters. I had a filter turn to mush and clogged a lot of ports in the trans of my wheel loader. It took a long time to find out what was wrong and a lot of work to clean out.

If the filters are ok then check the screen behind the suction cover on the trans

Screen looks good, some Do Do bypassed the filter years ago, from the looks of the hose. Talked to a guy tonight that said he tought it was the "de-throttle linkage", told me where to look. Hope he is right, I need this loader. Has several linkage issues, none I can't fix. Just can't handle a high dollar issue.

WH we need pics.  I have some experience with older Ford Loaders and Backhoes.  Just not sure of model numbers.  I'll know whether or not I ahve had anything to do with that model if I saw one. :)

To those of us who bleed BLUE,  you can't go wrong with a Ford.

That being said, when buying used,  don't buy abused.

This goes for tractors, sawmills, women,  etc.

WH- I have a 910 cat loader that exhibits the same tranny issues you mentioned, when I bought it I changed the oil and filters cleaned the screens and it did'ent make any difference. but once it warms up it will spin the tires and acts fine. I have used it to pull trucks out that were stuck and it seems fine, I have tire chains on the front and it will pull a bunch, so I quit worrying about it.

UPDATE. Changed the oil in tranny, Put the right stuff in, doesn't stop pulling in an hour now. Still, I think, it should move a bit faster. Maybe I am asking more of this old machine than it has in it. Little bit of fuel, it moves, a lot of fuel, moves the same speed. Does this sound right?

Regardless of what I do, the fluid is still full of bubbles.

It may take a couple of changes of the hydraulic oil to get rid of the old contaminants.  Talked to a guy about this loader today and he told me what to do.  Keep in mind this guy has been rebuilding transmissions and hydraulic systems for 40 + years.  He claims what you need to do is run the loader for about an hour or so after everything is up to temperature.  He says Work it fairly hard but not to excessively shut it down and change the oil while its hot and before the contaminants have time to settle.  He claims these transmissions have been problematic since they were new.

Sounds about right, changed fluid today, acted better, maybe change again, maybe get better.  ???

Thanks for the reply.

Why is the tranny fluid full of bubbles?

Drained , refilled, ran it, pulled stick, still full of bubbles.

Maybe you've got an airlock in the system somewhere or one of the ports in the transmission is plugged.  If a port is plugged it will bubble just like as if you were in a pool of water with a high pressure water hose spraying against the pool wall.  The air bubbles are created by the disbursement of the air as it travels towards the vent or natural flow of air.  Usually this is towards the top of a hydraulic system, differential, crankcase etc.

Normally I would walk away from this machine. The reatlity is the machine belongs to the widow of one of my old classmates. She needs to sell it, I need to buy a bigger loader, just can't afford  to throw money away, regardless of the good intensions.
