Howdy all,
I was just looking at my manual and it says how much MC i can take off my lumber in any 24hr period.  I bought my nyle 200 kiln used so i'm not sure if its lost coolant or something but it doesn't take off a lot in a day.  THe most i've been able to pull off, summer or winter would be about 3% MC at 120 degrees.  I have about 1800 bd ft in my kiln at any given time and the temperture is quite frequently high enough that i have to vent to keep the compressor from going over limit.  Even when i keep the compressor running all day (no over limit) i can only do about 3% MC.  Typically i am drying air dried stuff from 20% down to 6% but even when i have done green it doesn't do a real lot more, maybe only in the beginning if the stuff is soaking wet.  Is this the time they mean 12% per day on other species?  Do i need to recharge my compressor?  Is this typical?  My kiln is suppose to do up to 4000 bd ft, i thought by making it smaller i could do loads faster.  Does this matter?  I usually watch how much water is being pulled off to tell how dry its getting, though i do have samples and measure them everyday.  Its been consistant for the last year i've run about 20 loads through.  Any ideas, thoughts?  Thanks
kelvin
Maybe my fans are restricted, not enough good air flow, though my manual says below 20%MC fans don't matter too much.

If you run the unit steadily, take a measure (quart, cup whatever) and fill it from the drain. Make not of the temperature AND humidity. If you need to pick up a humidity gauge or wet bul or whatever, get the best reading you can. Time exactly how long it takes to fill the measure (For example, 8 ounces in 68 seconds ate 120 degrees and 46% rh). Fax or e-mail the information to Nyle, and we will check to see if it is time to check the charge. Oh, and also note the serial number so the age can be determined. Compressors can lose efficiency over many years.
