Sorry yous'all,
I didn't intend to leave.  One day I was navigating in the FF without any problems, the next day I was a guest, the day after that I couldn't get in.  I think this happened when we lost power for a short time during one of those snowstorms.

You FF guys are too funny and clever for an old school marm like me!

Now to answer the original question, yes there are too many ways to spell the
long e sound!  From what I remember most words you can spell by following the general rule but a few words are like some people and will not follow the rules (such as a few members of society)!  Notice variety and society rhyme,  they are separated by 4 syllables, in the 2nd part the vowel  i says its name - i, in the 3rd part of the word -et rhymes with get, let, met, so it's part of that phonetic short e sound, and finally in the 4th part the y acts like a vowel here, so pronounce it like a long e sound. Golly I didn't want this to sound like a newsletter!

Hi Bow Saw !  In the days following this last snow fall, we had 4 people killed in their home or commercial building that collapse. Our schools were closed for many days to remove the snow from the roofs.
I have an old 42 hp Oliver tractor, and I tried to get out of my garage ( I have loaded tires and a 800 pounds cement block on 3 pt for traction.....I went 8 feet and I was stuck WHILE IN TE GARAGE I could not go out  There was 3 ft of snow to plow so I had a 5 ft wall of snow in front of the tractor in seconds......LOL, back it up and had to use my small snwo blower......This year we had over 15 ft of snow... a nice winter....                 See you                                      Roger
