BMP's in Indiana
« on: September 05, 2007, 08:05:08 am »
There is an effort to get a mandatory best management practice law put on the books in Indiana.  Many of us are fighting this effort.  We feel that voluntary BMPs are doing the job just fine.  According to the state forestry officials in their survey, there is 80 % compliance right now.

My question, for those of you in states with mandatory BMPs where you have to send in a letter telling where and when you are logging and that you have passed the BMP training how is it working?  Does it result in landowners getting less money for their timber?  How much extra time and effort does it take to do the paperwork?

Have treehuggers used the law to stop logging or cause problems?
