There will be a workshop and field tour on the topic of managing and marketing cedar and cedar products on Aug 9-11, 2007 at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield, MO.

One of the speakers will be Richard Newton a.k.a. Cedarman.

Will Baugh of the Wood-Mizer Mt. Vernon Service center will put on a demo.

I could not find any contact name, number or web site to get contact information on this program.  Maybe Cedarman can help us out?

Updated - April 11..

Cedarman must be out of town...    I found the following PDF document on the Missouri Forest Products Association web site.

I've got the paper around somewhere with all the details.  When I find it I'll put the info on.  This seminar should be of interest to anyone that grows, logs, processes or uses ERC.

The Green Horizons Newsletter showed up in the mail yesterday.  It has a little additional info on the cedar conference.

I’m gonna try and attend...need an excuse anyhow to get to Springfield and visit BassPro, Grizzly, along with Ballew Saw and Tool.  And the boss noted the free antique tour on Friday...better start putting some coins in the piggy bank. ;D

If any one has an interest in selling there standing cedar, logging cedar or manufacturing red cedar products, this conference will fill the bill.  This is the most jam packed bunch of sessions that  I can ever remember being presented.  As the volume of cedar increases in the US, those that are knowledgeable and prepared will best be able to take advantage of this unique species.

There is only about 50 to 80 million feet of cedar used in the US each year.  If just 10 per cent of the new homes lined there closets with cedar, it would require 100,000,000 square feet of cedar paneling.  Pergolas are hot items right now and the people that want them have plenty of funds to buy what they want.

See you in Springfield.

For registration info, call 417 732 6485

Conference qualifies for Society of American Foresters CFE credits.

This conference is for landowners, foresters, and the cedar industry to learn how to manage and market this really neat species.

We would love to attend. I will check with my scheduling agent and see if she can get off those days. If not maybe I will come alone.

This event is shaping up to be the best event for eastern red cedar ever.  Most processors will be there.  The goal is to help landdowners figure out what is the best thing they can do with their cedar.  I am truly excited about this event.

ERC is an extremely underutilized species considering all of its unique properties.  Is there any species that has such a nice aroma?  Such character?  ETC. ,ETC.

I plan on being there.

It just so happens I'll be family vacationing in the area that week ;-)

Anyone else?

If you are attending the conference on Red Cedar and are looking for something to do in the evening, check out http://www.supersummercruise.com/, its the same days just south of Springfield in Branson.  I will be with a group with some cars at the cruise.

We just can't fit it in. I would love to be there even though a spectator is about all I could be, I might make a contact or two and it would be worth it.

Is it going to be a yearly event?
