How do you spell relief?
« on: April 06, 2007, 11:29:32 am »
What do you do when everything is going wrong - where is your quiet little place where you retreat to regroup? Music in your study? Walk in the woods? Launch the bassboat and drop a worm?  Coffee and conversation with the wife/husband? Shopping spree (for you gals ;) ) Read a book?
 What do you do ???

I go for a long walk in the woods or by the water. The sounds are soothing and I get a chance to re group.

Anytime I needed to relax, I would draw.  I love to draw seascapes, fish, animals.  I don't have the patience right now to do that with a 7 month old and redoing the outside of our home on weekends, but will find the time soon. ;D

I like to do a lot of the things already mentioned, Walk in woods by the stream, fish, draw play computer games (can't nap I wake up crabby too! :o) lay out in the sun (but living in Ohio that is like 2 days a year usually when the grass is 2 feet high and the garden needs weeded as well as the fish are biting! what to do what to do!  8))

When I'm really tired just setting petting the barn cat is pretty relaxing too, (just as long as ya stay away from her belly ;) ) she likes to set in you're lap & drool on ya as she doesn't get enough loving I suppose.  If-n I lived there full time she would be more spoiled.

The best remedy for me is hanging out with my friends, around a good meal, hopefully with a beer or two, maybe playing some card games, or watching a movie.  Walking in the woods is always good, but sometimes, the best thing for me is to be around good friends.

There is this spot, somewhat southwest of Tuscon, where there is a notable energy specifically tuned to my own, at which I buried specifics of my own being long, long ago, and particularly placed rocks as a 'marker' to which I can 'cast' or 'retrieve' at any given time/space.

Depending on what exactly has gotten things out of kilter, as to how I specifically utilize the spot.  Or, vice versa.

kev

I took that promotion at work first of the year and it has been 60-70 hours a week ever since.  After all the hourly guys go home I lock the office door turn on the music and take 15 minutes or so and draw on the dry erase board about where the house and cabins are going to be placed on the farm when we move down there.  I've also placed lots of pics around the office as a reminder of that couple of times a year we go down and loose ourselves for a week or so.  It helps keep me going.

I gotta hit the woods. I'll take the dogs out and my wife tags along most of the time as well. I'll grab a brew and she takes a glass of wine and we just stroll and chat. Its good to shoot the breeze and unwind together, she has a hecktic schedule and I'm knee deep in the rat race daily. Also since I dont saw for a living, the woodmizer unwinds me as well, it gives me a chance to concentrate on something productive for my personal use.

I usually just pack it up and go home, get a bite to eat, watch some TV or a movie, take a nap, surf the net or put in some shop time on an old tractor if the mood suits me.  Basically I look for something that isn't related to what was giving me fits.

Yep I can relate to that, the amount of velocity that a drill can pick up when it is being swung around by the cord is unbeliveable.  :D  I will typically turn to the rest of the power tools and say" You just seen what happen to mr drill, I suggest the rest of you behave..."  ;D

If I'm  working on something that I have to get done and things start to go wrong
and I start to get fustrated, I stop and pray. This helps me more than anything. If I'm looking for something ( like A wrench I just had that is hiding from me ;D) if I stop and pray it usually turns up shortly.

Sirius channel 80, very calming (classical music). At varying intervals when things get really bad I'll find something to break. That really relieves some stress.

I never did mention what I do. ;D As a greneral rule I call my bestest good friend,, my wife. She talks me out of my funk in like 30 seconds flat and I am all good to go again. :)

I don't really have that many bad days anymore but when I don't want to trouble her with my troubles, I clean the shop. That usually works it out me. ;)

Four years ago, I had had about all the stress I could stand. Working at the Pentagon was more than I could stand, so after 26 years with the Department of Defense I did what any sensible guy would do to relieve the stress................I quit. I found out that working with a group of like minded people means a lot.

Nowadays when I need a bit of relief, prayer does me good particularly with some good praise music playing in the background.

Shopping spree (for you gals ;) ) ???

Kevjay, man you've got this all wrong. Going on a shopping spree does wonders for me...........particularly when I'm shopping for tools. ;D ;)

A nice King Salmon  66# as I recall  and halibut probably in the 100# range down to maybe   25 #.  Half the unwinding is the fresh eating.   ;D

A friend of mine came to pick me up one morning to go salmon fishing, but it was real early, about 3:30am cause it was a two hour drive. Well I had a cold and didn't really want to get out of bed. Then he shows up again about 10:30am with a 56lbs king. :o 8) >:(

Solodan. That place looks like a piece of Heaven on earth.

It is. :)

That pic was taken late in the year, end of Sept.

This place is amazing mid summer, when the water is really moving but still swimable. This section of the Clavey River is about 1/2 mile stretch of a dozen or so small waterfalls over warm sunbaked granite. There are dozens of small pools ranging in size from a small hot tub to the size of a football field. The water is cold, but does warm up into the 70's mid day- mid summer.  8)

.....and WDH , no you can not have directions unless you are planning on staying. It is the only way we can be sure our secret is safe. ;)
