$700.00 boxes
« on: February 15, 2003, 02:22:11 pm »
Wow maybe I should change my name to gabby. Well any ways the shop where I work at pays $700.00 per wooden box. They are 40 by 48 inches by 30 inches tall, their made of 1 by--- pallet lumber. Am I in the wrong business or what.

Are you sure they're empty?  I figure there is somewhere around 60 bf of lumber.  A lot would depend on the specs.  Pallet lumber is running about $.30/bf.  I believe you could get them built for around $30, especially if you bid it out.

Profit margins are pretty thin in pallet production.  The guys that are making it make trailer loads per day.  But, they don't fool around with small clients.

I find that a lot of guys that are industrial buyers don't have a clue about any wood they are buying.  They need it, and throw money at it.  Then send the excess costs to the consumer.

You ain't in the wrong business, if you've got a sawmill! You could pay for all the other equipment you'd need, with the profit from one box. How many of these boxes do they need, anyway?

EZ,  Let me buy them from Arky and sell them to you for $350 and you sell them to the shop for $600.  If the deal is too good they get skeptical :D :D

Hey Minnesota_boy, Arky can build them, I will get them from him, and we can set you up like EZ as a distributor to dail_h. :D  I don't know how you feel but I would be willing to work out some kind of price break for another forum member. :D :D :D
