I unfortunately only have one that means when I have help around the mill the free help gets the good one (logrite) and I have to use the other ones :( :(

That's what I'm afraid of...I will get stuck with the old wood cant.

I aim to get me one of the long jobbers one of these days.  I can move most anything I need to with a 48 incher, but that big ling rascal ..... Well, I figure that ought to be pretty close to hydraulics ;D

Hope those long ones are probably too long and  will get in the way close to the mill!

I just got my second... a blue 60" peavy.  My first is a 48" peavy, but I was having trouble on the 36" logs. Not any more!  Heck, I don't even have a mill!
I do what the little voices in my wife's head tell me to do.

When WM started selling Logrite, I bought 48" and 30", (They are orange from WM)  No comparison to old hooks. My old 48" and 24" wooden handle hooks are now on permanent display in the mill shed.

How long is your mill shed with 3 Wood Mizers or have you been trading up with each new mill?

Today I placed an order for two 60inchers, I can hardly wait to give them a go!

Robert,

Trading up each time. Getting older and looking for a little less manual labor.

The trouble with trading up to a more productive mill is - you make more lumber in lass time - thus you work your butt off moving, stacking, etc.

How many hours on your most recent mill and are you satisfied with all the improvements.

As to the cant hooks, I have placed the order and am waiting their arrival.

Robert,

You will not regret buying the Logrite cant hooks.

565 hrs on mill since March, 175,000 BF sawn. I saw alone the majority of the time at my yard. On road about 25% of time at customer locations usually with their assistance. Auto bumpup on Accuset for return, board return, Command Control remote, hyd, and saw head speed, especially on return are great. Speed of return with the remote, not walking, gains more cutting time than any feature. The 51 Cat engine has handled any log so far. Had a few problems with Accuset and transducer, WM supported fix with no problem. Sparks, forum member at WM elec, provided total support. As stated in another post I saw today, "I Love My (WoodMizer)Sawmill".

To all who answered!

I "cant" wait for them to arrive..............I ordered 2 - 60" hooks

They are so hot that Wood Mizer has them on a back order.

Thanks for all the advise.

We have three "mill specials" and they don't have the rubber grip deal.  I've not had a problem using them in cold weather.  It never got above 20° today and I used my 36" LogRite Mill Special probably 50 times.  I usually don't wear gloves but today I was wearing my Jersey gloves.

Robert, I daresay that you will not find a person that owns a Logrite tool that has anything bad to say about it.

That's a pretty incredible record.

After you have the opportunity to use your new 60 inchers, you  may also want to consider one of the shorter "mill specials" that Bibby mentioned - they are really handy and easy to maneuver.

Enjoy!

Chet and Log Walker;

Thanks, thats 2 very possitive points of view, sounds like I would"t be making a mistake by Ordering one up.

Thanks Again.
Robert

The worst mistake you could make is NOT to buy one.  There are cant hooks, and there are LogRite cant hooks.  If you are going to have only one, make it a LogRite, then, you wouldn't ever buy any other brand...although you may tend to collect a few.  I've held myself to one...have to break my "off brand" one first.

Peavy or Cant Hook?
« Reply #38 on: January 17, 2007, 10:54:09 pm »
I need one to move logs in the woods on old log landings.  My wood will be under 36 inches diameter.

Do I need a peavy or just a cant hook.  I am not sure why I would need the peavey spike?

My opinon is that when moving logs on the ground and in piles over one another the Peavey is superior because of its ability to pry with the point.  When moving logs on a deck or sawmill, a cant hook is superior (especially when turning squared cants) for its 2 biting surfaces.

I'm a swingmill guy.  I love Peaveys.  You can stand them up in the ground with the spike, and with a swingmill, the tool that turns the log doubles as a prybar.

On the firewood processor, I use MRS CAPTAIN uses a 30" mill special cant hook on the deck.  (She doesn't let me near that processor, gotta run it when she's not around  :))
