Forum is acting foolish
« on: December 23, 2006, 09:41:21 am »
No, not you. :D

Some of you may notice the slow return of pages. Its not a fault of the Forestry Forum Server.  We have 2 servers dedicated to Forestry Forum use and they are both running fine. However, the network they are on does not seem to be. I have a complaint into Dallas and they have observed the same latent behavior and say they will look after it.  I hope soon.  I hate feeling like I am on dial-up. :D

I thought you were announcing a Yooper Night!!!

Good to hear it's not the connection between hither and dither that did it, I was wondering why it was so slow!

While we talking, whats up with the unread post or the new replies being bigger than my screen? Never been this way until a week ago.I haven't done anything differant,I think.I am use to this happening to some posts, but not on the unread post page. They are off by 6  inches. Merry Christmas.

That is not a problem here but when I click on a thread, it is slow loading then jumps around like a hyperactive mutt. Hard to read. ;D

I have had these problems also. Was wondering if the jumping around was my computer. At least I know where the problem is (or is not) now.

I would bet its because someone put one of those mile long links to ebay on a post and it showed up on your unread links.  I just fixed one of them a minute ago.  Is your page still wide?

I have not had anyone check out the forum yet. I gotta think the Server Farm has let most of their techs go for Christmas and that our slow problem is not a priority until they get back.    :)

At least it's workin'!!   Just finished day 2 with no server at work.
No parts lookup, No pricing info, No interchange, No inventory, No Nothing.

also the "show unread posts since last visit" button isn't working.

Its working, but perhaps its not working for you. :)   If you hit the marked as read button you would have eliminated the list, if you are having issue with cookies it might give you a problem. Maybe any number of things unrelated to the actual working or not working of the list.  I just clicked it here on my Machine and then slid back and checked with Tammy's.  No problem.

Scott, I feel yer pain. We started on  completely new software at work this past week and it is a challenge learning it and getting the bugs out. My co-worker has never used a puter outside of work and does not know windows, he is really having fun. :D

Yea, it was reeeeeally getting on my nerves. :D   Nothing I could do as it was a network problem in Dallas that they took care of this morning when they all got back to work. :)

 Still slow down here  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Any way to speed things up on my computer ???  I run spyware, adware, blogware, and virusware, 3 times a week. Still slow  ??? ??? ???

Just switched over to Microcrap Explorer, and it still says, waiting for Forestry forum ??? ???

Still not at peak performance here. Takes 20 secs to load the reply screen. Used to be five seconds. I know it's not the speed of the computer because it's a zippy machine, but it could be my ISP although I have no reason to assume so. On the computer forum it loads real fast, but on Moncton.net it is always slow because they assume everyone has high speed when they upload them 300 kb images.  >:(

Not complaining, just observing.

Totally back to normal for me too.  What a relief!

Must be the season.  A fishing site I visit almost as often as this one has been down for two days, problems moving to a new server.

Honestly, I think it had to do a lot with internet congestion due to a huge influx of Christmas SPAM. Thats just me popping off, but I sure got a lost of spam the last few days. Hardly any today.
