Here is the opportunity to launch your Forestry career with one of the leading natural resources programs in the country.
 
This extensive training program is designed to build upon your classroom knowledge and field experience.  With the guidance of a mentor, this unique opportunity allows you to travel throughout the state during the 18-month probationary period.  Upon permanent placement, Forestersí duties include activities related to private and public lands management, forest fire management, and public outreach/education.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Ė Division of Forestry is currently seeking four (4) Senior Foresters to join a nationally recognized program in natural resources management.  If you are an experienced forester who loves working in the field, then this is an exceptional opportunity for you to make a significant and lasting contribution to sustainable forestry in Wisconsin.
 
Senior Forester positions can fall into three areas of focus:  Field Foresters, Forester Rangers, or County Liaison Foresters. A forester position can include various combinations of the following responsibilities:
 
Field Foresters are primarily responsible for providing forest management services to private landowners as well as to state owned and public forest lands.  These positions also assist with fire suppression, pre-suppression, and prevention.
 
Forester Rangers are primarily responsible for providing fire management services on federal, state, county and private lands.  These positions provide initial attack suppression services and serve on the Incident Command Team.  They often also have forest management assignments.
 
County Liaison Foresters are primarily responsible for serving as the liaison to a specified county in support of sustainable forest management on county forests.  These positions are also responsible for forest management services to private landowners and on state-owned lands, as well as assisting with fire suppression.
 
The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, a creative problem solver, and will have the ability to work with people from various backgrounds.  Successful applicants will be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and possess strong organizational and time management skills.  A well qualified candidate will have professional level experience in forest fire management and/or sustainable forest management, and an SAF accredited forestry degree (or equivalent).
 
Under the current contract, the starting salary is between $43,764 and $52,308 annually (depending on experience).  This position includes an excellent comprehensive benefits package.  Application deadline is November 12, 2007.  Qualified candidates will be invited to interview the week of December 3, 2007, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.  Anticipated start date early 2008.

Deputy Administrator Ė Deputy State Forester
Division of Forestry

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is currently seeking a progressive, strategic thinker and seasoned manager to serve as the Deputy Administrator to lead the internal operations of the Division of Forestry.

The Deputy Administrator is a mission critical position that serves as a trusted advisor and thinking partner to the Chief State Forester.  This position acts on behalf of and with the full authority of the Chief State Forester.  Primary responsibilities include day-to-day supervision of the four Forestry Bureau Directors, and working in collaboration with the Bureau Directors and the five Regional Forestry Leaders.  Additionally, the Deputy Administrator supervises and works closely with the Budget Manager to ensure allocation of appropriate resources, budget integrity and fiscal accountability; as well as supervising and collaborating with the Forestry Policy Analyst to synthesize information for management decisions. 

Successful candidates will have organizational and political savvy to foster important networks and build trusting relationships.  A well qualified applicant will possess refined problem-solving and problem-identification skills to effectively address various complex issues.  The Deputy Administrator will be passionate about addressing operational issues by working collaboratively to design and implement business processes to further the achievement of the Divisionís mission.  The ideal candidate will have an aptitude for coaching and coordinating staff by influencing individual resources and strengths to bring out the best in others and create unity.  The Deputy Administrator position is demanding and challenging, requiring an individual with superior communications skills, strong personal discipline and consistent commitment to the Division of Forestryís mission.

Northern Regional Forestry Leader

(Work Station: Spooner, Rhinelander, Park Falls,
Ladysmith, Woodruff, Antigo or Hayward, WI)

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Ė Division of Forestry plans, coordinates and administers a wide variety of forestry programs focused on the management, protection, health, improvement, and sustainable use of Wisconsin's forests, as well as the protection of life, property and resources from wild fire.  The Division is currently seeking a Regional Forestry Leader to serve eighteen counties in the Northern Area.  This position is responsible for providing supervision to over 175 employees, and oversees the management of private, public, and state lands.  This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced forester to have an impact on sustainable forestry in northern Wisconsin.

The Regional Forestry Leader is primarily responsible for the management of all activities related to the forest fire, public and private forestry programs within the region.  This includes managing the northern region forestry budgets and staff to achieve workload, ensuring consistent program implementation.  Additional responsibilities include overseeing professional forestry duties for the region; ensuring region wide forest fire readiness; providing law enforcement oversight; and coordinating cross program integration.  The Northern Regional Forestry Leader will also effectively manage the regionís internal and external communications, partnerships, and integration activities.  Supervisory duties will include hiring, training, coaching and mentoring permanent, seasonal and limited term team members.

Forest Products Utilization & Marketing Specialist

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Ė Division of Forestry is currently seeking a Forest Products Utilization & Marketing Specialist (FPU&M) to provide expert consultation and technology transfer to a variety of businesses, internal and external customers, and multi-stakeholder teams to support the forest industry statewide. 

The FPU&M Specialist will primarily consult in the areas of forest product utilization, emerging forest products market and business development, and manufacturing process improvement.  This position will also conduct and coordinate manufacturing process efficiency studies based on LEAN manufacturing principles; and review business plans and plant designs for new forest products start-ups and plant expansions.  Additionally, the FPU&M Specialist will assist with developing promotional materials demonstrating the environmental advantages of wood products; provide expert guidance for woody biomass market development; and assist communities to mitigate the impacts of invasive species.   This position is also responsible for preparing confidential reports, conducting presentations, as well as make recommendations for policy development.

Turn your passion for forestry into your lifeís work by becoming a part of a nationally recognized forestry program. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources - Division of Forestry is seeking fifteen (15) Entry Level and Senior Level Foresters at various statewide locations.
 
Foresters perform the following duties to varying degrees:  develop, administer and evaluate management programs for county, state or private forestlands; establish and administer timber sales on department-managed forestlands; administer forest tax law programs; perform fire suppression, prevention and law enforcement duties; conduct public outreach; and cooperate with other department programs as well as state, county and federal agencies.
 
The ideal candidates will be excellent communicators, creative problem solvers, and achievement-oriented with a strong service ethic.  Successful candidates will have exceptional time management and organizational skills, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and have a superior aptitude for working with people from various backgrounds.  Candidates are required to have a four-year SAF accredited degree in forestry (or equivalent as determined by the Chief State Forester).

Starting salary for entry level foresters will be $35,291 annually with periodic increases over the first three years to $44,589 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
