I'm not familair with that one. I have had pretty good with Ad-aware. You can get it Major Geeks. Don't know if it will help or not.

I have had good luck with Spybot Search & Destroy.  However, I have not had an encounter with the nuisance you describe.

I'm with Pappy on this one.   Ad-Aware SE Personal (freeware) was recommended on that "old" TV show Screen Savers.  I got it and like it.  I got spybot Search and Destroy too, but, like ad-aware best.

My provider suggested Ad-Aware SE and it has worked very well. I run it once a week and it only takes a few minutes.

My grand daughter at College managed to get lots of spyware on her computer, so good 'ol GPa took it to a computer shop, they cleaned it, and suggested SpySweeper. So far, doing fine and cost was $32.95. I use the Yahoo! spyware option, at no cost and I believe it is working fine.  At least I don't detect any and no pop-ups.

I'll never use Ad-aware again.  Apparently, it works fine for some people, but for some, for whatever reason, it shuts everything down.  I had to call Dell about a year ago because after using Ad-aware, my computer just wouldn't work at all.   >:(  Dell said they get a boatload of calls a day because of Ad-aware problems.  I had to completely reformat my hard drive, and had to have India guide me through every move.

I'd caution against Ad-aware, from my personal experience.  Obviously, it's worked well for a lot of guys here, but I'll never go anywhere near that stuff on my PC.  Spybot has worked well for me.  But the best solution?  Get a Mac.   ;D  That's what I did.   ::)

The guy that built my puter installed Norton but that did not stop the spyware. Also, Norton kept asking to update which I dutifully did but now the DanG thing pops up and updates automatically when I am in the middle of something important like the FF. Gets huffy when I try to cancel till later.

Our first machine just had Norton Anti-Virus, 2nd one had Norton Utilities which included anti-virus.  This machine came from Dell with Norton Internet Security with all the bells and whistles.  It does the job 8)  I'll probably get a major infection now that I've bragged it up.  Better update ;D ;D ;) :)

I tried the free stuff for awhile, but I've come to the conclusion that there is really no incentive for the free stuff to keep current. I purchased SpySweeper a year ago and have been very pleased with it. It does a great job.

Chet..

You could try this link
http://www.spywareremove.com/removeAntispywareSoldier.html

It has manual removal instructions, but they look a bit of a mission, I think the utility on that page might be a good option.

Maybe Y'all remember the problems I had a while back. I finally got Mozilla to work properly?? and DO NOT allow Microsoft to operate on my computer, that I am aware of. NO pop-ups and the machine runs pretty well.

I use Trend-Housecall for a complete scan. It is at Trend.com. and free.

It shows a list of "Vulnabilities" that COULD affect my machine, WHEN I use Microsoft. Must be 40 items shown.  ::) ::) ::)  As far as Viruses, scan says there are none. Not even the Trojans I had so much trouble with.

Chet, try Trend-Housecall. It scans from your computer to their server. Might take a bit on dial-up.

Chet, don't know if it's any help but..... A few years ago the Dell I use was so bad, a few virusus had been in it, some junk like barganbuddy and casinoplayer, etc. got installed on it by ????? I'd get error messages all the time, etc. Out of desperation, I finally formatted the hard drive, kicked the kids off it, [they have their own now] It's run like a Swiss watch since then, I use a free zonelabs firewall & a free panicware popup stopper, no virus program. I'm on cable internet, I think we get hammered more than the dialups, but since then, no problems. I use a '98 Dell w/ win 98, does everything I want.  It just got to the point trying to fix it was pointless, I spent hours trying, the format was the cure.

Where do you get the guts to run bareback without an anti-virus program?   I'd go nuts
There are too many people out there who want to hurt just for the sake of hurting.  You don't have to be a big organization to be a target.  They just shotgun the whole world and hope the get someone.  The bad thing about virus' is that you can pass them on and not even know your machine is infected.  I use Norton, but, there are a lot of other options out there, some of them free. :)

Tom, the worst "crash" I ever had was running Norton - Went to download a music program, all this other junk came with it, plus some virus, I can't even remember the name of. I understand the first thing it did was disable NAV, then started eating everything in sight. Talking to Norton on the phone, they actually wanted more $$$$ on my CC # to even help me. I'll let you guess what I told that jacka**. The 39.50 or whatever I paid for the year I might a well have used to start the stove. There's very few sites I go to, I won't open any email attachment, even if I know the sender. A few times I thought something was fishy with the computor, I ran the Mcaffe Stinger, nothing, zip.  Over two years now, maybe three, can't remember.

I agree with DextorDee, avg free and windows defender. I also have ad-aware and spybot. I have cleaned spyware from many computers due to kids at home and bored paramedics posted at our fire station. Sometimes no combination of the above will remove the DanG things and manual removal has to be done. regedit, file deletion and a whole bunch of detective work because they can be real sneaky  :P . I haven't had to reformat a drive yet due to adware/spyware, but I've been tempted. On a clean computer, the combination of avg free and windows defender does a good job of preventing problems, but commonsense on downloads does a better job.

I use Xsoft antispy.  It is not free, something like one time $20.  They do have a free trial version you could try to get rid of your problem.  I have successfully used the free trial version to get rid of a problem that other products did not clean up.  Xsoft in my opinion is good at cleaning the registries too.

good luck
