Chinkapin acorns
« on: September 23, 2006, 09:21:11 pm »
I want to start some oaks from a handful of acorns I have gathered.  They need to be sprouted in the fall, If I remember correctly.  Any special techniques?  I figured I would stick them in a little dirt in a flowerbed, and  transplant them after they get started.

I have started acorns in those black plastic nursery pots by lightly covering with a good potting mix and keeping them lightly moist. I kept mine on a picnic table in the back yard, but be careful if you have squirrels, they will rob your crop when you aint looking.
