Nyle 300 high temp
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:10:19 am »

Is any one using a Nyle 300 high temp to dry SYP?  Looks like it can remove plenty of water fast enough and with enough temp to cook the pitch.  Just wondering if any one was using one and how it was doing.   I am going to need to dry about 5,000 bdft a week of 2x stock down to 15% after air drying but need to be able to set the pitch.
May need to contact Nyle and get a few owners names but thought I would start at the top first.

Davd,

Drop the coin and attend the 4 day drying course before you buy a kiln.

I did, in my orginal buisness plan I,  had a DH unit.  After the course I built a conventional unit and never looked back.

My main reason was, my heat energy is basically free, wood fired out door furnance, it does not eliminate all my wood waste.  But it does allow me to dry green off the saw, which gives you a better end product.

Either way, attend the class and make an educated decission on your kiln type.

Arky,
Bloomer Hardwoods...Platte City, Missouri.  Ask for Lester...he has been running one continuously for maybe 8 -10 years.  All hardwoods...so don’t know if that will help or not.  Call information for his number.

Ga-Boy brought up something that I question.  Will a band mill produce enough waste to run a conventional kiln full time?

There is no problem doing SYP and setting pitch. Use the page in the manual for fast drying softwoods.

Larry,

My Swinger produces enough slab wood to fire my wood furnance.  It has gotten to the point that I have to haul off slab wood as I can not burn it fast enough.  So I would think a band mill would produce more than enough as well.

I am currently thinking about running an add for some one to come and pick up my slabs because the wood shed was filled up in early spring. Either that or build another wood shed ::) I only saw part time but get buried right quick. I will have to get creative pretty soon if if it keeps up like this.  having the outdoor burner, I too have thought of making the jump to a wood fired unit.  from what I have researched, I would be able to put in a 10,000 ft unit and run it easily.

Norwis,
Ya I got a mountain of the stuff, no shed to store it in ::)  Heat everything with wood :)  Maybe it would be a good idea to come up with some kind of steam generator to run the saw mill off of with the slab wood. :D :D
By the way do you think your logger can spare a 10 cord load of cedar logs... I am looking.  PM me if you do not mind sharing ;)
