I am bored
« on: August 02, 2006, 08:48:25 pm »
On June 5th I had a menisci tear in my left knee. Workmans comp took forever to get the paper work around. So yesterday at noon I was on the bucher table. I sit in my recliner till I can't sit any longer than to the sofa, than back to the chair. Talked to my son that works for ups, he said some are off work for 6 weeks :(. If the days start getting shorter real fast it's because I'm pushing the world faster.  :-\ I want to get back to work.

Richard, I tore my mediscus in the left knee back in May of 99. It took 4 months for the quacks to decide I needed surgery and 2 more months to get back to work. Sitting around the house gets old fast as you are finding out. I found it to be a good time to do a lot of my drawings for sheds and house and such. It helped pass the time.

DanG, Richard!  Thats a bummer.  I know you must be having a bout of cabin fever already. :-\   As long as you're just sitting around, might as well sit in the car and go over to the pig roast.  We'll just prop you up beside a tree, and I'm sure somebody will toss you a greasy bone now and then. ;D  Heck, you might even do better than that.  If I don't forget to take my mind-altering drugs, I might even bring you your own plate. ;)

Richard, one more thing, the docs told me to keep my knee elevated above my heart for at least three days, being hard headed, I figure sitting in a chair was fine. On the third day, fever and discomfort set in. It took 2 weeks of antibiotics to kill the infection that was starting. Don't mean to scare you, but follow the quacks advice on recovery.

Recovery from knee surgery seems to vary from one person to another.  I had surgery for a torn miniscus in my right knee the Monday before labor day. Before the surgery the orthopedist said recovery could take anywhere from two weeks to two months.

I was fortunate. I spent a couple of days on crutches.  Used a cane for the next day or two when I was outside and nothing after that.  Labor Day I spent an hour or two in the garden following the rotortiller around.  I would say the knee was at least 95% healed after two weeks.  Took longer than that to completely regain the strength in it, but I could do almost anything I wanted to after a couple of weeks.

Hope you have the same good luck I had Richard.

Got back from the Dr. He gave me some pic of my knee

This is what he had to clean out.

This is my knee cap. It was getting rough from kneeling on it. He cleaned it up also.
I guess you could say I had the rough edges knocked off.

I know what you are going through. This is my second week back to work after having my knee replaced.
Now I have to wait 6 months from the surgery date to have the other one replaced.
Just relax and enjoy your time off. Worrying won’t help it just makes time drag.

Richard, on the bright side - if you had to pick a few weeks of down time, considering the temperature and humidity that we've been experiencing this is a GREAT time to be inside in the AC!

Good luck with your surgery and recovery.

I was going to have surgery on the 6th. of july. The day before it was canceled because of workers comp. It was hurting most of the time. At our church we have small group bible study every other Wed. evening. In our group one couple couldn't make it, so there were just us and one other couple. We sat around our kitchen table. We had a list of about 18 or19 people to pray for. I  said let pray GOD would heal my knee.As we prayed a feeling come over my leg and the pain went away. I have had NO pain what so eversince then. The Dr. said the day after is the worst. I have no pain. I'm afraid I'll forget my self and damage it before its healed.
Today I did find a record player and been playing some of the gospel songs from 40 years ago.
If I get too bored I'll have to decide what kind I want to be ::) Maybe red oak or walnut.

Don't sit around to much you could get a  stiff knee.  The most important thing is to get your motion back and the more you sit around the harder it is to come back.  What did they do to your knee?  Did they just clean up your tear or did they have to repair it by pinning it down?  The later needs more time to heal.  My wife had her knee done in May.  She was up and moving around in a week and doing pretty well in two and now in August it is still getting better.  Currently, I am waiting to go to the hostpital, this afternoon I am having my left shoulder rotator cuff repaired.  At least I will be able to walk around.  I hope your knee get better soon.

Now that you have the time check some wood carving sites on the web.
You will be suprized how time flies with a knife in your hand. Just watch your safty proceedures so you do not actually get the knife stuck in your hand. I have been carving baskets out of peach pits, the best part is getting the pit out of the peach. Freinds and relatives love the hand carved whimmseys. A walking stick may be good
to go with your knee. At least it is something to do rather than watch reruns of Raymond and it does have somthing to do with wood.
                Recycle them slabs          Junkyard
p,s,
I donot walk or see or hear like I did when I was 50 but I still work with wood and it does relax you.
If it's free, It's for me. If for pay, leave it lay.

I saw the surgeon yesterday again and I'm going to have another MRI on the 19th and no doubt another sugery...probablly in September.....That means no hunting again this year. no_no no_no no_no
