Ice chains
« on: December 25, 2002, 07:27:30 am »
I need a set of ice chains--23.1X26, and I am trying to find the best ones.  Not the cheapest or the most extravagant, but the best bang for the buck.  Any suggestions?  If anyone has recently purchased chains and the studs are not falling off, let me know where to purchase them, or if there is some great brand out there I haven't seen.  Tell me which ones are garbage too.  I've looked at Norse, Pedno, the cheap ones in Labonville, everything.  Thanks, Lang.   ;D

I'll try to remember to bring that up at work tomorrow. Two of the loggers that are hauling in right now just had this conversation in our mill break room last tuesday during the freezing rain episode we had. They came to an agreement on what they thought was best, but I really wasn't paying enough attention. One of the Farmers that haul dust had just brought in a huge plate of assorted Christmas cookies. ;D

There was divinity fudge, white and dark covered chocolate pretzles, molassis cookies sandwiched with sugar cookies with frosting between them. Chocolate Chip and peanut butter cookies, something called m-n-m garbage can cookies that were more like a real sweet granola bar, marshmallow windmill cookies, some peanut butter balls and a few pieces of fruit cake. Nobody ate the fruit cake.

Nepaug,

See you are from NE.  If you haven't already, try B-B chain in Milford NH.  603-673-3455.

I bought a set of ice chains from them in 1998 and am quite happy with them. Slip says Hakki.  I think they came from Finland or something.

Thanks for the replies.  I'll call that outfit in NH after I shovel the 20" of snow off the walk tomorrow!  It is snowing like a mother right now.  My wife makes a killer fruitcake!

I don't want to get this thread off topic, but I love fruitcake.  Of course some people think that I'm strange.

I've been running the LaBonville icechains for three years now, no complaints so far, even run them down the road a couple of times ;D. Still look new ;).

I have run and sold both labenville and wallingford ice chains.  and also sold some of the cheeper ones..  as far as i can see nothing even compaires to the walingford chain.  with the U type stud it is always pointing to the groung not folded over or even worse being bent over.  if your machine is very heavy go with walingford.  on a light machine the non-walingford ones with the I type studs will hold up ok.
