Hey guys didn't they teach you at forestry school? It's the line between the B-line and the D-line! smiley_dunce Actually I must have missed that day too., haven't a clue.

The "C line" refers to the stocking of a stand.  Above the A line the stand is overstocked.  The B line represents the center of the fully stocked region, and below the C line the stand is understocked.

You should find graphs of stocking in any forestry text book.

For central hardwoods, the C line would pass through a basal area of about 57 sq ft for a stand averaging 12 in dbh, and about 45 sq ft for a stand averaging 8 in dbh.

I thought that that might be what the question was asking ?? If not, more clarification is needed. In northern hardwoods, our stocking reference refers mainly to the B-line among diameter classes for management to a 70-90 sq. ft. BA  stocking level.

The A line represents 100 percent stocking.  The B line is 80 percent stocking, and the C line is 50 percent stocking.  Generally, (I think) any stocking above 60 percent is expected to grow in a reasonable time to or near the 100 percent stocking.

A common suggestion is to thin overstocked stands back to 60 percent of the original density.

Could someone scan in the graph from Roach anmd Gingrich?

NO NO, your all wrong! "The C line" is words in a song that Grandpa Jones came out with about 40 or more years ago. Goes something like this:

I met a little girl from Nashville,
she came from way down south,
she twisted up her hair so tight,
she could not shut her mouth.

Goin' across the sea,
goin' across the sea,
goin' across the C line,
to see that gal of mine.

Anybody remember this song?  Yea, it's for real.   8)

I got you, i remembered the chart you were refering to once stocking was said.  Kind of a random question with no context though.
