I am sure I can make something with those mesurements . Do we need to identify the wood , or you going to try to make an educated guess at what it is .  ???

I have a pretty good system in place for wood I.D. :)  I usually look at it, sniff it, dig it with my fingernail, sniff it again, then say, What is it?  :)

Wait a minute!  What about those of us here, soaking in knowledge, occasionally sharing, who don't have a sawmill?

Can I go to a lumber yard and get this type of thing?  Take into account the species I am looking for.... (for those of you who don't know... tsk tsk!)  I realize I am leaving soon but that doesn't mean I can't leave my mark!

Well Jeff,

You will just have to pick them up while you are here - let's see, what to make it out of. Perhaps corteza - it will last longer than any of us will. So much to choose from.

I am sure Harold will be able to find a little wood too.  ::)
So, how did I end up here anyway?

I sawed a camphor log for a customer the other day and brought some samples home. It smells like vicks vapor rub. I don't run into that very often. I'm not sure it's even native. Jeff will have the only scratch 'n' sniff ceiling in the country.

Hey Fred, have yall got camphor trees down there?

MY HEAD HURTS!!!!  Too much to think about.
Charlie, My kids joke that the smallest fraction my tape measure goes down to is 1/2 inch. Guess I'll get a new one for this project!
My guess is that jeff knows us well enough that he's prepared to deal with whatever thickness we send him.

Just lay that tape measure on the board, and saw ½ way between the 5 and the ½  ::) ;D ;D

You can get the wood from anywhere and I will be honored to put it up.  Really, Please, even after you move there will be so many things you can add and contribute to the forum. You dont have to be the ash lady, you are "estiers, forestry forum member extrordinair" no matter where you are at or what you are doing!.
