I received a magazine today with write up on the sawmill operation of one of our board moderators. 8)  It is a write up on the  "Buy The Foot Sawmill" run by Linda with the help of ElectricalAl.
I guess this is old news since most everyone gets their Wood-Mizer Way before I do. ;)

Actually, I find them interesting and informative and I envy that perk of owning a WM. (Did I just say that out loud?)

I'm waiting till Diane's asleep, then I'm going to pull the blinds so the neighbors don't get the wrong idea when they see an orange glow coming from the monitor. smiley_curtain_peek Thanks for the direct link, I'd like to read of your celebrity. I would never have Googled the site for fear of them telling the government about my viewing habits. ;)

Congrats Al and Linda!

What are some of the pro's and con's of the Sanborn minimax? I was talking with a guy this week that was thinking of buying one to replace his circular head rig. He had their video and couldn't say enough good about them. But then again he had never ran one either.

Norm,

We got our copy on the 3rd.  I would never guess it would take the US Mail a week to haul a book 60 miles further West :-\

I should have driven it over. That way I could re-enact a famious sceen from a Steve Martin movie.     It's were Nathan Johnson points to his name in the new phone book and yells. "I'm somebody now" ;D

Who knows the name of the movie :)

Inspector,

I bet I don't get the Red Carpet treatment up at your place :o

This is the first time this photo has been shown.
Poor Jeff had to learn the hard way to avoid Polish hot dogs at QuickyMarts.

Oakiemac,

The biggest draw back about the minimax was blade maintance, blade price, & production.  After the sawmill band speed was corrected at the owners expense production went from 2500' to 4000' in 7 hours. Then, it was down to the cost to ship and sharpen blades.  The sawmill cost $70,000 new in 1995.  Now, a guy can buy a LT70 for $45 and get 4000'.  Bakers new big saw is pretty slick too (sponsor ;))
I did like the 17 degree slant on the blade. I could see the log face fairly good. Blade guides were a real pain to dress every blade change. Also, the diesel fuel drip for the blade splattered my glasses at times >:(  We had a 50 hp electric motor that did a fine job. Over all the machine was built well, but had a few quarks owners will have to live with or fix them selfs. I have seen used ones for $10 to $30 grand.
Menominee Saw (sponsor ;) ) can do the blades if you can get on the truck rought.
Swedge tooth worked better for us. Tried Stellite for a while and did not like it.

If we were to get bigger and had $80 grand to burn I'd buy a 70 or 300 thin kerf and a HMC debarker. I have used two HMC's and have like them fine.
